Every time someone gets banned, Deron says "Don't feed the trolls." Everyone agrees; then when the next troll comes along you all get riled up again and start bitching. Let's follow our own advice, shall we?

Freaking THANK YOU. I was about to go on yet another tirade about this but you nailed it - and I am not cleaning up after the guy because too many of you yahoos quoted the him.

Obviously, being a libertarian-leaning sort of fellow I would have a prima facie reason for choosing Bob Barr. I don't know a whole lot about this guy though. If I'm not mistaken he's voted for things that are clearly not consistent with libertarianism. I've heard some call this guy a fake. I'd like to know, Ozzman and Einherjar, what you guys have to say about this?

I might actually have to drive two hours away to Tucson just to vote, because I (stupidly) failed to notify of my change of address. Either that or I won't vote, but I feel an overwhelming obligation to vote.

The federal excise tax on firearms and ammunition is a rare creature: a federal tax that is fully supported by those who pay it. Long guns and long gun ammunition are taxed at 11 percent; handguns and handgun ammunition are taxed at 10 percent. The tax is a key source of funding for wildlife conservation projects and shooting range construction across the nation.

But in 1999 then-state senator Obama proposed increasing these taxes by 500 percent. It’s safe to say that Obama wasn’t hoping to build more shooting ranges.

Right now, a rifle that a manufacturer sells for $500 carries a tax of $55. Under Obama’s proposal, that amount would rocket to $330. This would turn a tax willingly paid by sportsmen into a tool to punish gun buyers and would have its biggest impact on those who can least afford to pay such an exorbitant tax--at least, until the loss of sales drove gun stores and manufacturers out of business.
SWEET.

No I am NOT voting for Obama, I'd vote for Bush over Obama. And I voted for shitty douchebag John Kerry.

I know Obamas stance on guns. He hates guns, hates gun owners, hates self defense.

They call him a fake because he voted for the Patriot Act, but has since rescinded his position on it. That and he doesn't think Iran is a threat. He's not your traditional Libertarian definitely.

He is a fake. He's a Republican who's failed to secure the nomination and so he switched to the Libertarian party. He voted for the Patriot Act (although, he did demand that sunset clauses be attached-if that matters at all) and he has expressed some very socially conservative views (on topics like abortion). He is not your ideal Libertarian candidate. The only reason that he's changed some of his views is because he switched parties. It's also true that he wants to privatize education (I don't agree with this, although I have to admit I don't think he's "crazy" like vihris does ).

However, I don't have much faith in any political candidates anymore. The truth is, they all promise what they can't deliver. In the list of candidates for the '08 election, I'm hard-pressed to find a single person I'd feel comfortable voting for (in fact, I can't find one). I would simply not vote, but I don't want either Obama or McCain in the White House. So, Barr is the best choice for me.

My tia voted for McCain and I asked her why she didn't vote for Obama and her response was simple; "my pals"

That's pretty much how my grandmother was. I love how so many in the older generation of hispanics are so unabashed in their folksy racism. My grandmother actually changed her mind though and decided she's going to vote for Obama after she started following the presidential race more closely. I never thought I'd see the day where my grandmother would be cool with seeing a "pinche negrito" run the country.

I voted Obama on Wednesday :) :) :) Glad to see teh m3talh3ads supporting the brother man!!!

Lotsa McCain fuck jobs around here. Florida is a bigot state.

How does that make sense?
If you don't want McCain or Obama, you're basically fucked because one will win. But regardless, voting for Barr is the same as not voting because he's not going to win.

I know I'm fucked. But I'd rather vote than do nothing. This country shouldn't have only a two-party political system. I consider my vote for a third-party candidate a step towards that goal. I know he won't win; but at least, when the time comes, I can say "I didn't vote for him."

Why should I have to? I hate this fucking pressure everyone puts on people into voting for either McCain or Obama. If people actually read about each candidate and voted for who the fuck represented them best, we wouldn't be a two-party system. Honestly, it's pretty fucking stupid that so many people only recognize two candidates in the election.

Most retarded post I've seen in a while.

Balance of powers + mild-as-hell politicians = my life will be virtually identicle regardless of which one of these people-pleasing career politicians sits in the oval office. It's called priorities, broseph. Even if someone like Ron Paul got elected, someone who wants to make serious changes (not the mild policy adjustments of Mr. Obama), most likely very little actual change would occur due to the balance of powers.

What happens with the war doesn't significantly change my life. My lifestyle is recession-proof. The slight difference in my life based on different taxes will go unnoticed by me. Call me apathetic, call me a bastard, but you can't say I'm not thinking logically and adequately looking out for my interests. Others may decide that a different path is better, but no one can say that there is a path that better follows my priorities and desires.

Obama's not going to turn the country communist. Nor is McCain. Nor would Biden or Palin. Even if I chose to waste energy throwing support behind either one of these cookie-cutter choices, half of the country believes the other one will do a better job. I don't agree with the partisan bullshit that says your party is superior and intelligent while the other party is retarded and will destroy the world. If my guy loses, the other guy will do a pretty adequate job just the same. I don't pretend to be Stephen Hawking or any genius, I'm not the magical person who knows everything (and can tell the future of what the candidates will actually do regardless of their election platform). What I mean by this is, if half the country wants the other guy in office, even if my guy is "better" the other guy will probably do a job comparable in its level of goodness. If the day comes that half the country is brainwashed and voting for the reanimated corpse of Hitler, perhaps I'll vote for President. Until then, it's really not pertinent.
