What's the cost of living and shit? I wouldn't mind commuting into the city for work, if it involved public transportation.

Hey 'gugs, can I send you my resume? :loco:

Actually my last "dream move" was to Seattle anyhow. :loco:

I fucking hate Burger King, so I'm okay with that aspect.

I'll bet lurch could hook me up with some illegal alien poontang too. :Spin:

All this yelling is taking away my horny.

Canada is run by neoconservatives now*. It's no longer a desirable destination :-P

*sorta, minority gov't shitz
Did you hear the news? Ethic commissionner wants to take a look at Harper's case, 2 days later, Harper wants to take him out. Pretty clever!

NAD, if you're serious, we should just have an offline conversation. I can call you whenever you want if you get me a phone number.

Short answer: if you're willing to live in either northern NJ, or Queens or Brooklyn (I personally think you'd really like Queens and/or Brooklyn), you can definitely live alone and pay ballpark $1000-$1300 w/ parking & utilities included. Commuting costs will range $100-$150/month as well, if you don't live right in Manhattan.

not sure about the illegal alien poon, but my very good friend's brother and father are in the same field you are in work wise, so job might not be a problem.

as far as living costs, I would say count on about the same as what you are paying out there.

really about $1200-$1500 ... there is a pretty big construction boom in the boroughs. brand new apartments can be had for reasonable prices.

or you could move to sweden and live alone for ballpark $500 and not have to die from smog poisoning at 34

actually, the air quality near NYC is amazingly decent considering how many people and industries are here

@lurch: you can definitely still find plenty of places to live in the $1000-range; it all depends on where you're willing to live. Knowing NAD, he could live 45 miles from NYC in north-central NJ, have access to woods, mountains, camping, etc., and pay less than $1000 in rent (or a little more in mortgage w/ a good down payment), and still have only a 1 hour commute into NYC if that's where he wants to work. Just sayin'

that's true ... if you don't mind a little commuting, there are plenty of innexpensive places in NJ and Upper Westchester.
but knowing Nad, I think he needs his desert :loco: ... not sure how he would adapt here

Actually, forget Westchester, far too toney.

I was talking out toward Parsippany, NJ area. Actually, he'd be better off in NJ, since it's less enclosed and he could get to the mountains of NW NJ, eastern PA and NY State, the forests & camping of PA/NJ/NY, and more wide open spaces. In the boroughs, even the outer-boroughs, you can often feel "enclosed," you know what I mean?

But yeah, Westchester is CRAZY expensive, probably even moreso than parts of NJ where I live (since there are still somewhat inexpensive apartments around here).

well, yeah ... Queens and BKLYN are on an island out at sea so it can be confined. And Long Island is pure crap flatlands ...

When NAD was here that one time, he did the typical tourist thing and stayed in Manhattan the whole time ... tried to drag him out to see "real" daily life of NY of the boroughs one night ... but we just got hammered instead :loco:

My goal is to move somewhere by the time I'm 30 (3 years and counting). That will give me enough time to save up cash to afford to fall on my face for many months on end if worse comes to worse. So right now I'm still formulating ideas of where to go, but I really should give NYC a serious thought because well, it fucking rules there.

Honestly, I think I'm ready for a change of venue! The desert will always be a part of me but I've spent 26 years (well, about 5 were spent living at the beach) here, and it's time for something else. And if I really do miss the desert, I'll just move back. Or to Arizona rather, I like it there too. :loco:

NAD you whore, I've got a grumpy PM to send you when I get home... Ditching us Canadarians!!!!!!

I was so looking forward to being woken up at 3am by my loud neighbor NAD screaming SLAYERRRRRRRRRRRR and SHITZZZZZZZZZZZ with either slayer, danzig or some stoner metal blasting away.
