Yearlist 2004 thusfar

I sense a deep, meaningful debate on the horizon.

For what it's worth, here are my main contenders:

Mar de Grises "The Tatterdemalion Express"
Drudkh "Autumn Aurora"
Astrofaes "Those Whose Past is Immortal"
Esoteric "Subconscious Dissolution into the Continuum"
Morgion "Cloaked by Ages, Crowned in Earth"
Woods of Ypres "Pursuit of the Sun & Allure of the Earth" (this was still a big disappointment, but eh, the year hasn't been very good to me so far)

Dismember and Darkthrone might go up there. Not sure what else, still a shitload of stuff I need to hear.

Vintersorg - The Focusing Blur
Arsis - A Celebration of Guilt
Sunn O))) - White2
Ayreon - The Human Equation
Deathspell Omega - Si Monumentum Requires, Circumspice
Behemoth - Demigod
Anaal Nathrakh - Domine Non Es Dignus
Ocean Chief - The Oden Sessions
Squash Bowels - No Mercy
Electric Wizard - We Live
Wall of Sleep - Slow, But Not Dead

etc.

THESE are the best releases of 2004:

Saxon - Lionheart
Usually when bands get old they start to suck, but Saxon piss on this theory 5 times and then burn it. This album is straight up Heavy Fucking Bristish Metal. Buy if you're not gay.

Suffocation - Souls To Deny
A formidable comeback from one of Death Metals greatest bands.

Dismember - Where Iron-Crosses Grow
Their best in a while, big surprise.

Vader - The Beast
These guys are the Motorhead of Death Metal, I swear. This new material is some of their best yet!

Jag Panzer - Casting The Stones
The best Jag Panzer release in a while, and every band member is in top fucking form. US Power Metal for the masses, with conviction and pride. The production is a bit too modern though...

Exodus - Tempo Of The Damned
Now this is one awesome comeback. Holt and Hunlot are back on the assault, and even the slower, groovier material sounds good. Steve 'Zetro' Souza apparently was possessed by the spirit of Paul Baloff because his vocal performance was fucking insane. Excellent album.

Drunkard - Hellish Metal Dominate
Kreator - Pleasure To Kill in 2004. This owns you, buy it.

Motorhead - Inferno
The best Motorhead release in YEARS!

Deathspell Omega - Si Monumentum Requires Circumspice
An awesome, intricate Black Metal release, that doesn't forget about the Metal part.

Darkthrone - Sardonic Wrath
Black Metal fucking Motorhead. Fenriz is the man, one of the coolest guys to ever grace the Metal scene, and this album just straight up rocks all the way through.

Metal Church - The Weight Of The World
Now here's another awesome comeback. Slick Heavy Metal in vain of oldschool Maiden, and with the same fire that made almost all the other Metal Church releases a whole lotta awesome.

Brocas Helm - Defender Of The Crown
KVLT US METAL band makes a comeback. And they do not disappoint. Most of the songs are early tracks that were never recorded, and all the songs are played with the same spirit that makes bands like Manilla Road, Cirith Ungol and Brocas Helm own you for eternity.

Here's what I've liked lately from 2004:
Woods of Ypres - Pursuit of the Sun and Allure of the Earth
Deathspell Omega - Si Monvmentvm Requires, Circvmspice
Wintersun - Wintersun
Darkthrone - Sardonic Wrath
Drudkh - Autumn Aurora

Fuck, my mind goes blank when I go to write these things. I'm leaving out a lot... and there's a lot I haven't heard at all yet.

Biggest Dissapointments (which I heard a lot of good things about, then disliked):
Borknagar - Epic
Necrophagist - Epitaph

Let's end this fuckin' arguement because everyone has an opinion I say Iced Earth rules and you say they suck, but at least we agreed on something that Burzum sucks big time. Okay!

Both suck. Iced Earth's latest is the worst cd that I bought this year.

there's my list:
Susperia - Unlimited
Perduader - Evolution Purgatory
Decapitated - The Negation
The Forsaken - Traces of the Past
Dragonforce - Sonic Firestorm
Borknagar - Epic
Skyfire - Spectral
Exodus - Tempo of the Damned
Heavenly - Dust to Dust
Ensiferum - Iron
Blaze - Blood and Belief

The new Quo Vadis will probably be in that list too.

My favorite release is Forefather's-Ours Is the Kingdom. What a big step up from their previous releases. Good to see someone who agrees with me here. Also Into Eternity's-Buried in Oblivion, Hypocrisy's-The Arrival, and Finntroll's-Nattfodd.
Buried in Oblivion and Nattfodd are both excellent releases. I just picked up Buried in Oblivion yesterday and I am extremely happy with it.

Anata- Under A Stone With No Inscription

Cannibal Corpse- The Wretched Spawn

Decapitated- The Negation

Dragonforce- Sonic Firestorm

Estuary- To Exist and Endure

Finntroll- Nattfodd

Machine Head- Through The Ashes of Empires

Mastodon- Leviathan

Suffocation- Souls To Deny

Vehemence- Helping The World To See

....and many more to come still

Deathspell Omega - Si Monvmentum Reqvires, Circvmspice
Frozen Shadows - Hantises
Haemoth - Vice, Suffering and Destruction
Nehemah - Requiem Tenebrae
Satanic Warmaster/Clandestine Blaze split
Veles - The Black Ravens Flew Again
Moontower - Black Metal Terror

And hopefully releases from Nokturnal Mortum, Graveland, The Chasm and Absu won't disappoint.
