Your 3 favorite Metal productions of all time!

1. This Goldless Endeavor (Nevermore)
2. Black Album (Metallica)

3. The Formation of Damnation (Testament)

:kickass:

The black album would be on the fourth place for me, it´s a masterpiece indeed. Before the named Sneap productions came out, the black album was my fave in production. And when we talk about drumsounds, it´s still my fave.

can't cover it in 3 :D

I love so many for different reasons ... in no order:

1. Iron Maiden - Number of the Beast (those DRUMS!!!!)
2. Judas Priest - Painkiller (vocals & guitars)
3. Metallica - Puppets, Black & Load (everything)
4. Angra - Temple of Shadows (bass & drums especially)
5. Nevermore - DHIADW, TGE (everything)
7. Testament - The Gathering (everything)
8. Avantasia - The Scarecrow (just the song alone is un-fuckin-real sounding)
9. Exodus - Tempo of the Damned
10. Machine Head - Blackening
11. Helloween - Keeper of the Seven Keys II (something about the sound of that cd just makes me feel good)

see? I told you I can't just pick 3 and this is off the top of my head :p

Chimaira - Chimaira
Arch Enemy - Doomsday Machine
Decapitated - Organic Hallucinosis

Runners Up:

Nile - Those Whom the Gods Detest
Soilwork - Natural Born Chaos
Devil Driver - The Last Kind Words
Carcass - Heartwork

and many more

Now just add Arch Enemy - Doomsday Machine and Scar Symmetry - Holographic Universe, and this list would be perfect. ;) (sorry Felix!)

I'll hesitantly commit to:

Behemoth - The Apostasy
Dimmu Borgir - In Sorte Diaboli
Amon Amarth - With Oden on Our Side

By no means definite that those are necessarily my top-3 though! (but definitely up there)

DOOOOCH!!! TU ES..SOFORT!!! :heh:

Fine :D

1. Muse - The Resistance
2. Gamma Ray - Land of the Free
3. Virgin Steele - Marriage Part 1

you probably think I'm joking cause none of these were on my 1st list BUT, I'm not and therein lies the problem

I think the new MUse cd has an AMAZING production. Incredibly layered and complex but everything still sounds organic, especially the space-rock guitar shit at the end

The Gamma Ray cd to me is the best sound they ever had. Crystal clear in regards to every instrument and yet there is a great overall thickness that never overpowers itself ... very dynamic sounding cd

The Virgin Steele has one of the coolest rock / metal raw as fuck "open" guitar tones that still remains punchy and concise ... drums are almost 70's sounding, which I love, and the vocals are just some of the most powerful I've heard out of Dave Defeis with a great approach to verbs and delays

:headbang:

The Black Album (Metallica)
Imaginations From The Other Side (Blind Guardian)
Ghost Reveries (Opeth)

absolute favorites!
