Those guys are ridiculous musicians. The rythym tone on that album is pretty raw and dry IMO but there lead tone and writing skills completely make up for it

Yeah, the mix is pretty worthless :/ But it's kind of their style, and it's been growing on me.
The music makes up for the mix (which I heard was mixed on one day? editing not included ofcourse)

Sonata Arctica - Silence
Behemoth - Demigod (or the Apostasy, still can't decide which is my favorite musically, though production-wise is another story, even if probably everyone disagrees with me )

Nevermore - TGE. While there are some things about DHIADW I prefer more to TGE, I love EVERY SINGLE song on TGE whereas some songs off DHIADW I find a little boring. That and the fact that TGE is what introduced me to Nevermore mean I have a really soft spot for it.

Decapitated - Organic Hallucinosis. This album just sounds amazing and I will NEVER stop telling people how much I love it. The songwriting and musicianship is top notch and so unique.

Behemoth - The Apostasy. I was tempted to put Evangelion here instead but The Apostasy has been with me on so many boring car trips and I never get bored with it. The production to me sounds very natural and the songs are extremely solid. Between Decapitated and Behemoth, that is how I believe death metal should sound - to my anyway.

I have to give other mentions to Cannibal Corpse, SYL, Meshuggah, Nile and Necrophagist, for all putting out albums that I have fallen in love with in this last decade.

the last two are debatable. Im huge into bands like Sybreed, Raunchy, Behemoth, Opeth, Gojira, Soilwork, God Forbid, Meshuggah... but Ive listened to most of them since the 90's so they dont have as much of a "new" sort of influence on me. Of course Sybreed and Raunchy are newer but they're not as revolutionary as I find Burst and Katatonia... and The Blackening is just fucking amazing. Sooooo, that MIGHT be my top three I guess. Only one I know for sure is The Blackening.

Man I forgot how much I used to love Bodom until I read this. Follow the Reaper is so awesome!

Also, I think you and I are the only two people who think the production on The Apostasy is some of the greatest ever.
