Your CONCERT History!!

Just in case anyone missed it before (or didn't click over to the "Attended" page), here's my complete list

Now, I shall post selected concerts in an attempt to make an enviable list (my first concert was in '94, so I can't play the old-school card).

2/29/96 - Iron Maiden - Vic Theatre
Maiden up-close and intimate. Not many times that they've played in a 1300-capacity venue! (I've skipped that last few tours because I hate giant venues)

8/19/98 - 8/23/98 - Iced Earth - Various
Four Iced Earth shows in 5 days. Again up-close and personal.

1/23/99 - 1/24/99 - Iced Earth - Rodon Club, Athens (ok, they aren't all Chicago shows!)
They recorded a little album called 'Alive in Athens' here

7/9/99 - Emperor / Borknagar / Witchery / Peccatum - Congress Theatre
7/9/99 - Nevermore - Smiler Coogan's
Two different shows on the same night

7/30/99 - In Flames - Milwaukee Metalfest
North American debut

9/7/99 - Dimmu Borgir / Samael - Double Door
9/8/99 - Dimmu Borgir / Samael - Riley's Rock House
Great pairing on a club tour

6/10/00 - Iron Maiden / Demons & Wizards / Dark Tranquillity / Sentenced / Edguy - Gods of Metal, Italy
And this isn't just selecting the cream out of a festival; they played on a single stage in that order.

7/8/00 - Dr. Dre / Snoop Dogg / Ice Cube / Eminem / Warren G
The equivalent of a Metallica / Megadeth / Slayer / Anthrax show in 1992.

7/28/00 - Opeth - Milwaukee Metalfest
North American debut (also Anathema and Children of Bodom, among others)

5/2/02 - Immortal - Riley's Rockhouse
Before they were sellouts!

11/15/02 - Gamma Ray / Blind Guardian / Angra / Edguy / Devin Townsend - ProgPowerUSA III

4/3/05 - Tabla Beat Science - House of Blues
Zakir Hussain, Buckethead, Bill Laswell, and Pharaoh Sanders (among others) on one stage. Only thing missing was Bootsy Collins!

9/16/05 - Conception / Orphaned Land / Therion - ProgPowerUSA V
Conception, back from the dead! And 2x Orphaned Land, counting the pre-party

10/1/05 - Epica / Green Carnation / Orphaned Land / Disillusion - ProgPower Europe
Third OL show in two weeks, and it was almost free, since I was there on business!

10/14/05 - Green Carnation / Agalloch - Day of the Equinox, Toronto
Second Green Carnation show in two weeks, and this one had "Light of Day, Day of Darkness" in its entirety.

5/21/06 - Alice in Chains - Metro
Playing in a much smaller place than they should have.

Ok, that's enough!

^ The '98 Iced Earth Show at Jackhammer didn't draw a much of a crowd as you may recall, but it was a fantastic show nevertheless! It was also the first time I'd ever seen them live.

I'll never forget the crazy thunderstorm rolling through that afternoon/evening, with the raging winds and lightning streaking across sky (fo' real). It really set the mood for the night.

Just added one more tonight. Been waiting years for this show..
Dir en Grey (The Palladium Ballroom - Dallas, TX) :worship:

And forgot my first concert ever, duh!! Jimmy Buffet @ Fiddler's Green in Denver... I forgot because I was only 6 years-old :p

I am glad I started this thread.
I never knew that Dummy Burger ever played the Double Door.
I am not much of a black metal guy, but still like hearing about these sorts of things.

It is always interesting to see metal bands at Double Door...since it is mostly indie stuff there. They do book black metal shows every once in a while. I think people forget to look at thier listings because metal shows are so far and in between there.

True. It is a GREAT venue. One of my favorites in town.
Thurstons, which was on King, off of Lincoln, was like that too.
Every now and then they would book someone like Exodus, though you would have to look at their VERY small ad in the READER to even find out about it.

There are tons of small little bars and clubs that book odd shows once in a while. I alway love looking to see who is in town at these places.

Yeah, that wacky Death/Hammerfall tour was there. And Slough Feg must love the place...

So what's everyone's method? I really don't look by venue, since I've never found any correlation between bands I want to see and the places that they play at.

My main source is http://www.chicagoreader.com/music/early.html They seem to have pretty complete coverage, and you get an update of new additions once a week, so it's easy to track. It seems like I'm aware of most of the metal stuff before it appears there, but for non-metal stuff, it's great.

Neil, I check the early warnings too.
Another great place is CMF (Chicago Metal Factory) site.
They have a concert listing section for all chicago area gigs.

I also on occassion check the HOB, Metro, Pearl Room, etc sites.

One day I'd like to write up a history of my concerts, I have almost every ticket stub of the big shows I've been to. I'd have to rely on bands keeping their tour history as well however since a lot of the club shows didn't have ticket you'd just pay at the door (like iced earth back in the late 90's).

Doing the quick math in my head I think my list would be somewhere between 1000-1200 shows. That's about an average of two shows a week for the last 12 years since I started attending them.....in my late teens/early 20's I probably averaged about 6 shows a week since I'd drive anywhere within 8 hours to see a band and I'd go see pretty much anybody even if I wasn't much of a fan. These days more of my concert going is to see local acts since I don't have time to travel and I'm a lot more picky about where I put my money since you can't see bands for $10 anymore around here.

Saw these in the last few months of 2006
I know I've missed some opening acts with this list
To list every group/person I've seen over the years would
not only impossible but way too time consuming to even attempt it.

When I was a child, my first concert ever was Johnny Cash
totally blew my frikn' mind, I've been to at least a 1000 concerts(probably many more?) and have seen some weird shit but nothing and I mean nothing compares to the mayhem I remember from that night.
It was total chaos and the fans went absolutely berserk. Johnny was out of fuckn' control at that time in his life.
It was a beautiful thing -

all of these occured in the 2000s, so I won't try to date much of them
