Eh, I pretty much skipped the 90s.

Me too! I got into the grunge thing a little with AIC and Soundgarden. Tool was about the only new metal I listened to. It was a very dark time for metal from my point of view.

Queensryche from the 90s? Promised Land. That was it for me. Empire never really spun my wheels.

Judas Priest : Painkiller
Darkthrone : The black Triology + Panzerfaust
Mayhem : De mysteriis dom Sathanas
Manowar : Kings of Metal
Naglfar : Vittra + Diabolical
Chaos feeds Life : Strike upon you MCD
Falkenbach : first two albums
Absurd : Facta Luquuntur
Emperor : in the nightside eclipse
The crown / Crown of Thorns : all abums

Also skipped BIG part of the 90's metal scene...Grunge and the overload of death metal bands bored me so much I really didn't care to find other bands that did produce good records in the 90's. Also family situation, building house, having kids, etc... took me away from the scene.
Some recordings I like alot from the 90's are Dream Theatre, Symphony X, Grip Inc, Slayer, Psychotic Waltz , ....

I missed a bunch of the mid-ninties also. I listened to some of the grunge stuff, but didn't get into many new bands during that period. That being said, I see many albums listed here that I like.

A few I didn't see listed:
Flotsam & Jetsam - Drift
Trouble - Manic Frustration
Dream Theater - Scenes from A Memory
Savatage - Wake Of Magellan
Anthrax - Sound Of White Noise
Loudmouth - S/T

I did not miss the 90. There were a few excellent albums released that may stay unknown forever. :(

Here are my favorite albums of the 90s ordered by year. I also included the year 2000 for the effect :) Look at how miserably the 90s begun for me and how gloriously they ended in the year 2000!! :headbang:

I never got into the grunge scene, but I am glad someone mentioned Pearl Jam "Ten." The pretty much is a masterpiece. However, I found the 90's to really catch afire with the Prog scene.
First, Fates Warning with several releases in the 90's, DT with the epic I&W and Vanden Plas with "The God Thing." Symphony X debuted in the 90's as did Ark and Ayreon.
Some of the oldschool bands were still kicking like Metal Church with "The Human factor" and "Hanging in The Balance." Anthrax released :Sou8nd of White Noise." Armored Saint released "Symbol of Salvation." Black Sabbath was busy with "Cross Purposes" and "Dehumanizer" among others. Flotsam and Jetsam released "Quatro." Megadeth released "Rust in Pieces." Slayer released the epic "Seasons in the Abyss." There are countless others as well, many in my collection, but I don't feel like straining my brain.

Oh yeah, There are definately some excellent grunge albums. The whole grunge era tends to get filtered out of the "metal" discussions, but there's some great music regardless of what it's labelled.

Pearl Jam's Ten & Vs
Mother Love Bone
AIC - Dirt, Sap, Jar of Flies
STP - Core, Purple
Soundgarden - Badmotorfinger, Superunknown
Nirvana - Nevermind & In Utero (try to look beyond the hype :) )
Paw - Dragline

Like a few people here I kinda missed out a big chunk of the 90's as well. Don't think I bought any new metal between 92 and 97/98 just replaced a lot of worn out 80's vinyl with cd's.
Anyway these were my favourites of the 90's purely because they were the ones that really got me interested again

Blind Guardian - Imaginations From The Other Side
Hammerfall - Legacy Of Kings
Gamma Ray - Powerplant
Nightwish - Oceanborn
Running Wild - Black Hand Inn
Stratovarious - Visions
Angra - Angels Cry
Kamelot - The Fourth Legacy
Rhapsody - Legendary Tales

I started listening metal during the 90's so maybe that's why I have a different look at it but I think the decade is very underrated!
I don't even know where to start...

I've seen this mentioned in most people's lists in this thread. By far the best Armored Saint disc, IMO.

I have it high on the ranking (and into my walkman today :D) usually at the same level than the debut, sometimes higher. Most definitively it's better than the rest of the albums, a most noble way to bid farewell to Dave

Pantera-Vulgar Display Of Power and Far Beyond Driven
Cannibal Corpse-all in the 90's
Entombed-Left Hand Path (89?), Clandestine, Wolverine Blues (yes im probably the only dude that actually likes that cd)
Dismember-Pieces
Deicide-all of their material from the 90's and beyond.
Napalm Death-up to Harmony Corruption but the new cd is pretty good.
Carcass all including Heartwork
Jl america cds incl. Morpheus Descends and Beherit
Grave-You Will Never See
Massacre-From Beyond
Slayer-everything from the 90's incl their punk cover cd.
Fudge Tunnel-Hate Songs In E Minor
