I just gave a grade to every song based on my personal feelings atm, and got some interesting results. It shows there are many albums, which get 8,0 from me. The difference to my preference however comes from what I feel about the general style of the album, and the impact delivered by the important songs, the artistic theme, etc. For example Hatebreeder gets a relatively low grade from me when I give the average song grade, but that's because it has astounding songs but also weaker songs which hinder the grade. I'm sure if I started comparing and altering my grades it would look different, but this is what I got on a fly:

Follow the Reaper - 9,5
Bodom After Midnight - 8,1
Children of Decadence - 8,6
Everytime I Die - 9,8
Mask of Sanity - 8,7

This could be a little misleading, as I would compare the albums as such:

Follow the Reaper - 9,4
Hatebreeder - 9,0
Halo of Blood - 8,8
Hate Crew Deathroll - 8,4
Blooddrunk - 8,2
Are You Dead Yet? - 8,0
Something Wild - 7,7
Relentless Reckless Forever - 6,8

overkill dude

anyway for me its hatebreeder and FTR. I like Halo of blood also so far..
.

Hmmm tough one, I'll vote FtR as my favorite, but if I had to rank them it'd go like this:

1) Follow the Reaper
2) Hatecrew Deathroll
3) Halo of Blood
4) Something Wild
5) Hatebreeder
6) Are You Dead Yet?
7) Relentless, Reckless, Forever
8) Blooddrunk

This is what I mean... if I actually took time and compared the grades, it could look much different. If I compared HB and AYDY I'd say HB 9,2, AYDY 8,4. Both songs have amazing parts as well as weak parts... But really this is quite mysterious, there's many aspects that affect what grades you give.
Under which aspects did you rate a song?
I always thought about doing the same thing a long time ago just for fun.
I used to rate every song and album with these aspects:

for albums (scala 1-10):
- mixing/production
- guitar tone
- clarity
- solos

and for songs 1-5 points

Might as well make an album ranking too.

1. Hatebreeder
2. Follow The Reaper
3. Hate Crew Deathroll
4. Halo Of Blood
5. Are You Dead Yet?
6. Something Wild
7. Relentless Reckless Forever
8. Blooddrunk

(
9. Skeletons In The Closet
10. Shining
11. Ubiguitous Absence of Remission
12. Implosion Of Heaven
)

But depending on the day, my mood and other factors, SW can go up to place 3, RRF can get ranked higher, and so on. This is in no way definitive and never will be.

I think about how the general impact of the song is like. What kind of atmosphere, what it makes me see or feel, how the soundworld is, the artistic theme, how epic, melodic, dark, brutal, heavy it is... If somebody wrote a song that was technically like SNBN and had the same pieces composion-wise, but wasn't epicly arranged and didn't feel climatic or atmospheric, I might not like it at all. Of course the production level and technicality is a very important part, but I take it as given for every COB song. I just think about how cool, epic, genius, atmospheric a song is like and what story it tells, I don't mind so much what scales they play etc. That's the thing about songs. In solos these are priorities also, but I love some flashy, kung fu show-off especially in solos. I guess I've used to Bodom so all their songs don't feel particularly ninja technical and insanely fast anymore like they did when I started listening to them, it's just a given, something I take for granted. All these areas can always be improved, but I'm just leaning a bit more towards atmosphere and stuff than technicality.

Of course technicality is very important in the enjoyability of the listening experience as well, but alone it's nothing; I still think simple, genious basic ideas are the main thing, then you incorporate wild technicality as a tool to make it satisfying for a demanding metal listener. I don't have to whistle every single note in SNBN to feel its vast epicness... however, certain songs rely more prominently on technical playing and would sound nothing if you tried whistling them.

1st: Follow the Reaper

2nd: Hatebreeder

3rd: Something Wild

4th: Halo of Blood

5th: Hate Crew Deathroll

6th: Are You Dead Yet?

7th: Blooddrunk

8th: Reckless Relentless Forvever

Something Wild - Nothing they'll put out will ever dethrone it.

Yeah that's pretty much how I feel about it. But here's my favorites in order.

1. Something Wild
2. Hatebreeder/Follow The Reaper/Halo Of Blood
3. Hate Crew Deathroll
4. Are You Dead Yet?
5. Relentless Reckless Forever
6. Blooddrunk

This is like super hard, like choosing between your mom and your dad. My heart will always go towards Hate Crew Deathroll because it was the first Children Of Bodom record i heard. I listened to a Needled 24/7 sampler on a website and went to my local cd store to buy the album without thinking of downloading a single song and it blew my mind, it made me like harsh growling vocals. I was like "how can this be so angry yet so melodic?", i was amazed.

But if i have to be fair my lsit would be:

1 - Follow The Reaper
2 - Halo Of Blood / Hate Crew Deathroll
4 - Hatebreeder
5 - Something Wild
6 - Are you dead yet?
7 - Relentless Reckless Forever
8 - Blooddrunk

on the basis of my matrix and criteria i had put. (check it here : http://www.2shared.com/file/NF6KbTOp/bdm.html sheet1 : matrix sheet2 : ranking)
here's my list :
1 follow the reaper 80%
2 halo of blood 76%
3 hate crew death role 73%
4 hatebreeder 67%
5 relentless reckless forever 63%
6 are you dead yet 62%
7 something wild 60%
8 blooddrunk 50%

It's still Are You Dead Yet? Great songs, brutal sound, little keyboard use. I still can't make up my mind about Halo of Blood, it's somewhat uncohesive for me to rank.

1. Halo of blood, hands down. Amazing album. Not a thing I don't like there, can't wait to see it live.

2. FTR/HCD
3. RRF/HB/SW
4. BD/AYDY

As of 2013, my most listened to and favorite Bodom album is Halo of Blood, because it's new. But generally speaking,
1. Follow the Reaper
2. Halo of Blood
3. Hatebreeder
4. HCDR
5. Something Wild
6. Relentless
7. Blooddrunk/AYDY?

I ranked HoB over Hatebreeder simply because it has more songs that I like and I'm not keen on Hatebreeder's overly clean and perfect production. There are some songs on Hatebreeder like Warheart and SNBN that destroy anything on HoB, but songs like Wrath Within, Black Widow, and Children of Bodom usually get skipped. They are all great songs, but they don't catch my attention so much. In COB's case, I like the single version better for whatever reason. I'm sure my opinion will change over time when HoB gets played more. I'll probably be skipping Transference or Scream For Silence since those didn't catch my attention as much as the rest of the album, although they are still really good songs.

I'm not sure about putting Something Wild over Relentless. Production and structure wise, SW sucks, but it has many epic moments, whereas Relentless has less epic moments but better all around songwriting. I feel okay about putting Relentless over BD and AYDY because it's got more HCDR vibes and I like the guitar sound a lot. I had to tie BD and AYDY? because they both have an equal amount of good and bad elements in them.
Now that my excitement has calmed, and the new album smell has faded, I think I would rank Hatebreeder over Halo of Blood again. HOB is still in my top 3, and I'm still enjoying it quite a bit.

The only tracks that haven't been getting much plays are Scream for Silence and Damaged Beyond Repair. Transference is enjoyable again after taking a long break from listening to it.

Also, I think I would put Relentless over Something Wild now. I've concluded that Something Wild is more impressive from a creativity standpoint, but Relentless is simply more enjoyable to listen to, the few good tracks that is.

At the moment I listen to HOB more than anything else, but I'd still say FTR is my favorite. FTR, HOB, HB and HCDR (No particular order) are my top 4 with really small gaps between.

Also, Arcane, where's Song Survivor III?

1. Halo Of Blood, 9.5 of 10
2. Hate Crew Deathroll 8 of 10
3. Follow The Reaper 7 of 10
5. Are You Dead Yet? 6 of 10
4. Hatebreeder 5 of 10
6. Blooddrunk 5 of 10
7. Something Wild 5 of 10
8. Relentless, Reckless, Forever 3 of 10

I'll post my list, and also include three favourite songs from each album:

1. Hatebreeder
This is tough, I like them all, but I will go with Bed Of Razors, Towards Dead End and Children Of Bodom.

2. Follow The Reaper
Every Time I Die, Bodom After Midnight and Hate Me.

3. Something Wild
Deadnight Warrior, Lake Bodom and Touch Like Angel Of Death.

4. Are You Dead Yet?
Trashed, Lost & Strungout, Next In Line, Are You Dead Yet.

5. Hate Crew Deathroll

7. Relentless Reckless Forever
Shovel Knockout, Not My Funeral, Relentless Reckless Forever.

8. Blooddrunk
Blooddrunk, Smile Pretty For The Devil, Banned From Heaven.

Interesting choice. You meant Bodom After Midnight, right?

Right now the ranking would be

1.Are you dead yet?
2.Halo of blood
3.Follow the reaper/HCDR/Hatebreeder
4.Blooddrunk/Something wild
5.RRF

I've noticed that my mood affects heavily on what album or song sounds really good, it's kinda wierd.

The rankings vary over time, nothing's absolute, but I've to say that RRF is the hardest one for me to get into, even though there are great songs on that album.
