See, this is why Pearl Jam doesn't have a higher score. Since half the songs on Ten were hits, and by definition overplayed, it's suddenly not good anymore to most people. Even Flow, Jeremy, and Black are pretty amazing songs that people don't actually appreciate due to how popular they were.

Another thing that's overlooked is how great the vocals were in most of these bands. I don't think you find that in modern bands so much. Guys like Stayley, Vedder and Weiland were iconic in a way that no rock singers have touched since.

That's because rock hasn't been that good since. The only good, unique rock singer that I can think of is the lead singer of Godsmack and they were caught up in the nu-metal wave. After nu-metal... rock faded, and continues to fade. The death of Layne Staley might have been the death of rock as pop music, with alternative and hip-hop moving in to take it's place.

So, they're post-grunge alternative, suck a nut you genre whore.

Soundgarden at a close second, especially their later stuff in which Chris' vocals are stunning, and their lyrical content was brilliant... really their lyrical content was almost always brilliant.

I like AIC's softer stuff a lot better than all their heavy stuff. No Excuses and Got Me Wrong blow all of their other material out of the water, imo. Though, the other stuff isn't bad.
