Now that's what I call a poll! All good albums and masterpieces of guitar wizardry. If I were to pick one of these brilliant albums, I would have to go with...
Rising Force, Maximum Security, Mind's Eye or Time Odyssey, I can't decide which, they're all incredible albums. In the end I voted for Time Odyssey, simply because it has April Sky on it, possibly the most beautiful virtuoso instrumental ever.

good poll!!

I had to go with Maximum Security. It just used dominate my cassette/cd players, and I'm pretty sure I've owned it since the day it was released. The solos that Lynch and Macalpine do in The Vision and Tears of Sahara are among my favorites ever.

Very close behind were Rising Force, Passion and Warfare, and Mind's Eye....Becker too.

Perpetual Burn.. probably the best neoclassical shred album ever made, especially the first half of the album. The title track dominates all. Jason Becker is a musical genious.

On a different subject, you know what I wish I heard more in shred albums? Stuff inspired by the romantic pianists like Chopin and Liszt. I see a few guys with that inspiration, but most neoclassical players stick to the whole Baroque feel.

My vote goes to Rising Force. I prefer Michael Romeo's playing to Yngwie's, but that cd had the masterpiece instrumentals on it. Far Beyond the Sun is still my favorite instrumental to this day. Noone has topped that song. My second favorite on that list is The Dark Chapter...The Cask of Amontillado is my second favorite instrumental.

I would think it be important that Alien Love Secrets by Vai be on this list and one of the top runners. Between Die to Live, Boy from Seattle and Tender Surrender, those are three of the most perfectly executed, unique, tasteful, gorgeous songs ever written. The CD really only has one subpar track in Kill the Guy with the Ball, everything else is innovative and amazing. I don't think there is any other guitar album with close to as much quality with so much diversity. Perpetual Burn has a couple of amazing tracks, but a lot of it is just filler, and Rising Force is much the same way. Those are the two top aside from ALS in my opinion, and Far Beyond the Sun will always be a fav of mine, as will Altitudes, but as an album, I think ALS takes the cake
