Your favorite guitarist

John Petrucci (Dream Theater)
Jeff Loomis (Nevermore)

and i got one question: is jimi hendrix not hip anymore? he's not metal but i think he owns.

Kirk Hammett (prepares to get flamed)
These are things I already know and you need not tell me: he has extremely sloppy chops, he uses his wah too much, James has better solos than he does.
These are reasons I like him: He has a melodic style and I really like melodicism in metal. He happens to be in the band that has influenced me most in my music.

By no means is he the only guitarist I like though. Here are a few others: Alex Skolnick (Testament), John Petrucci (Dream Theater/Liquid Tension Experiment), Robert Fripp (King Crimson)...my list goes on :p

I think Kirk is mediocre, but I don't think he sucks. Given the intelligent way you posted, I will easily assume you like him stylistically and frankly, at least 85% of musicians favorite guitarists are their favorites because of their style.
Some of my favorites are technically elite, some are technically mediocre and one or two are even technically deficient. You don't need to be embarrassed to like what you like as long as you can give an explanation why. If we all had the same favorites, this would be a boring place.
