Your favorite metal guitar sound

Tool- Aenima
Nothingface- Violence
Carcass- Heartwork
Nevermore- Enemies of Reality
Machine Head- TTAOE
off the top of my head.

Do people hate on Awake? Pretty amazing album and the only DT I like to listen to. There are some guitar (and keyboard) sounds during "Voices" and "Mirror" that absolutely dominate.

I think my favorite metal sound may be on Isis - Panopticon, where they got that monolithic wall of sound, yet its still delicate enough to hear the notes and depth of the chords.

One not-quite-metal album I was admiring the other day is Smashing Pumpkins - Machina, the album is just an exhibition of great guitar sounds and interesting production.

On top of my head..
Metallica's - ... and justice for all (Carried the album even w/ the absence of the bass)
Carcass - Heartwork
Megadeth - Rust in Peace, United Abominations, Countdown, (Mustaine's has this guitar sound that really makes megadeth megadeth)

Opeth - Blackwater Park
Tool - Lateralus
Isis - In the absense of truth
Katatonia - Great cold distance
Thurisaz - Circadium Rhythm
Megadeth - Countdown to extinction
Metallica - Black album (for guitar sounds only, not song quality!)

I've not paid really much attention to guitar sounds really.

But I have to say I like the Arch Enemy guitarists and the Nintendo dude from Dragonforce. :)

Metallica - MoP, AJFA
Caracas - Heartwork
any bloodbath chainsaw esque sound
Entombed - Clandestine
OBITUARY had awesome tone which reminds me of old celtic frost
blackwater park, watershed, deliverence and GR
Slayer - RIB of course
Chimaira - Impossibility of reason had awesome tone
Porcupine Tree - FOABP (obv the heavy parts)
nevermore - Godless endeavour
KsE

i could go on....
