Being the death metal aficionado that I am, I was interested in what everyone's favorite death metal albums were. Be it Swedish, American, Progressive, Melodic, Gore, or Children of Bodom, list what death metal dominates your CD player.

My personal favorites:
Decapitated - Nihility
Suffocation - Pierced from Within
Necrophagist - Onset of Putrefaction (fuck yeah, Chrisz)
Death - Symbolic, Individual Thought Patterns, Human, and basically all the albums but Scream Bloody Gore
Arch Enemy - Stigmata
Children of Bodom - All (Don't get started with the genre, it doesn't matter)
Malevolent Creation - The Will to Kill
Dark Tranquillity - Damage Done
Atheist - Piece of Time
Opeth - Morningrise, MAYH, Still Life
Spawn of Possession - Cabinet
Dying Fetus - All
The Haunted - Made Me Do It

That's all I can think of at the moment!

Great stuff. You might be interested to know that Necrophagist is redoing that album with real drums and they are also recording a new one with a full band.

My list:

Morbid Angel - everything
At The Gates - Slaughter of The Soul
Carcass - Necroticism, Heartwork
Atheist - Unquestionable Presence
Pestilence - Consuming Impulse, Testimony of The Ancients
Dark Tranquillity - The Gallery
Kataklysm - Shadows & Dust
Entombed - Clandestine
Amorphis - Tales From The Thousand Lakes
Insomnium - In The Halls of Awaiting
Theory In Practice - Colonizing The Sun
Armageddon - Crossing The Rubicon

As you can see, I don't care for much in the way of simple, straightforward, brutal death metal.

Cynic-Focus (questionable, death metal vox though for the most part)
Atheist-Unquestionable Presence
Quo Vadis-Forever
Amon Amarth-Vs the World
Finntroll-Jaktens Tid/Midnattens Widunder
Children of Bodom-Follow the Reaper
Hollenthon-With Vilest of Worms to Dwell

Ephel Duath-The Painters Pallete

Oh yeah, forgot Atheist's Unquestionable Prescence and Cynic's Focus.

Scott, I am aware of Necrophagist's recording of the second album and I can't wait. I'm sure that if they keep recording new albums, they will become one of the biggest and best death metal bands out there.

I also want to add, that if anyone has any bands to recommend to me that I'd like (going by my list), be sure to mention them. Always looking for something new to get into.

Dude... who the hell really cares if there is a "difference between death metal and melodic death"? There is a fucking difference between V and the odyssey... fuckin' everyone stop bitching about labels. And i know some people refuse to call bodom death metal because they don't like death metal but they like bodom, that's bullshit. you like the band, they have death metal elements. What does it mater what they are labeled?
