It's time for a dose of originality.....NOT!!

Give us those songs that are so beautifully poetic and lyrically powerful you cried harder than the first time you saw Bambi. Those songs in particular that relate to you, even if you are a jerkass, I'll shoot :

Infinite Dreams - IRON MAIDEN

Not only is this my favourite song of all time musically it's a song which boasts such knowledge and poetic class in it's lyrics it has to go down as one of the best pieces of writing ever. Penned by the immortal hand of bassist Steve Harris this is a song which I share a very personal relationship with, so much so I think Steve was hiding in my bedroom wardrobe taking notes, I wondered what that noise was. Quite simply a work a magic which had made me cry like a baby on more than one occasion, whhaaaa whaaaa.

Subdivisions - RUSH

A little something thrown together by the best songwriter of all time Neil Peart who just pips Alexi Laiho. This is a song which touches on the conformists nature of Western society and it rhymes!! The viewpoint so brilliantly expressed by Peart is one I share strongly and musically this song kills. Only Neil Peart could've pulled this off with his power of words and observational skills. This is one for you outsider types which is probably most of you because you here instead of the Britney Spears forum. This song is crying out to be covered by a metal band, are you reading this Micheal??

here I go :

Angra - Gentle Change
These song leads me through a travel to my childhood, remenbering of the moments when I knew true happyness. The lyrics are simply sublime. Maybe, it's my favorite song

" I see the stars in your eyes
Portraying my face in the future
Nice is the weather outside
But I'll stay at home
Oh! Waiting for the rain...

Memories of when we were young
Wishing so bad to be older
Now you may look to the past
The only way forward... "

Dream Theater - Learning to Live

I don't know why... I just feel very good when I listen these lyrics

Rush - Cygnus X-1 Book II: Hemispheres

Well, the battle of mind and heart, love and knowledge, passion and reason...And in the end all these feelings finding the balance. The lyrics are very well constructed. And the instrumental is FUCKING AWESOME !

" We can walk our road together
If our goals are all the same.
We can run alone and free
If we pursue a different aim.
Let the truth of love be lighted,
Let the love of truth shine clear.
Sensibility, armed with sense and liberty,
With the Heart and Mind united in a single perfect Sphere. "

Wow this is a hard one to think of but I'll shoot at it:

Angra-Nova Era
Named this because it is song that I listen to a lot even though the music is not insanely awesome (its awesome just not listen to 5 times in a row awesome). I do listen to it constantly cause the lyrics are so refreshing to listen to because it is nice hearing about the world being destroyed because of what humanity has done to it and evolved themselves into, then the world is bein reborn and regenerates as angels rise from their ashes and create the world anew in its great purity.

"New day shines, fallen angels will arise"
"Nova era brings the ashes back to life"
"All over now, all the pain and all the lies"
"Nova era brings the ashes back to life"

Symphony X-Awakenings
I actually don't like the music to this song that much and don't understand why so many love it so much, the piano solo at the beginning is real good but the guitars licks seem to chug too much in my opinion as the best guitar licks are in the chorus. But the lyrics relate to me so well. A child is now an adult and has to accept his/her life is not the same as it was and make important decision that will effect the rest of his/her life.

"Here I am...at the crossing of life, I stand, all alone"
"Though the night is cold, I walk the road alone!"

Dream Theater-Don't Look Past Me
Like I said in another thread, I still don't know what album this is on, my mp3 said it is some xmas album but I don't think it is because it just doesn't seem to sound very xmas like. The song is just so uplifting by the sound of the music and the lyrics are just so heartfelt. Actually quite a fruity/cheesy sounding song but there is just something magical about it.

"I have seen you born before me, I have watched you die"
"I am in every word you say...believe me"
"With no question in your mind, there is no better star to guide you"
"Don't look past me to the sun, the sun's eye...."
(I can't exactly make out what he says where I put "the sun's eye" but close enough)

If anyone knows where this Dream Theater song is from plz tell me because I am so curious about it because I love this song! I have looked at the back of every DT cd (I think I have at least) and never found this song.

it's difficult to point some specific songs
I prefer to mention my favorite lyricists:
Kevin Moore, Roger Waters, Rafael Bittencourt, Andre Matos, John Petrucci, Mike Portnoy

honorable mention to Timo Tolkki though he is extremely repetitive

Don't Look Past Me (06:21) - (Studio - "Subconscious" CD)
[Demo from 1989/90, with John Hendricks on vocals. Also available ]
[with James LaBrie on vocals on the "Antiquities" CD. ]

it really isn't in any official cd
and by the way, the lyrics were written by Kevin Moore, this guy is fantastic, he writes beautiful and powerful lyrics

I really appreciate your reply to this cause I really love this song....actually one of the first DT songs I heard. But what is "Antiquities" and "Subconscience"? Are they demo albums, singles, or what? And why did they mention both of them when reffering to the song, Is one a version that Labrie sings and the other one the other guy sings? I think the one I have is Labrie, easy to tell it's him! It is also funny that the person who wrote the lyrics to that song is the first lyricist you wrote that is one of your favs (Kevin Moore). Who is he exactly? An ex DT member? I though DT wrote all their lyrics. LOL....you answering my ? just spurred more!

they must be some kind of christmas special cd's for the official fan-club
I have both versions of the song, one is sang by LaBrie and the other by the other guy hehe, I think he is someone they tested while LaBrie wasn't chosen (check the bio, maybe you'll find something there)
Kevin Moore and Roger Waters are my favorite lyricists :)
KM was the first DT keyboardist, and left the band after the Awake cd

Nevermore "The Death of Passion"

"Time has no meaning for me. She is gone,
and the void speaks to me"

You paint the sky in obsidian lies
And come what may never will I know how you changed time
The riptide lies ahead, all my passions now are dead
I can see the path you never thought to follow
I feel so hollow

I stand before you, a shadow of a man
Behind these eyes self destruction swims through my mind
I'm confusion and contempt, I am the void
You are the emptiness of black tomorrow
I feel so hollow

[solo J.L.]

You paint the sky in obsidian lies
And come what may never will I know how you changed time
The riptide lies ahead, all my passions now are dead
I can see the path you never thought to follow
I feel so hollow
You are diseased
You are deceiver

I believe this is the most poetic song Nevermore has with depth behind depth in all of the lyrics.

As I Lay Dying "behind me lies another fallen soldier"

i want to bring you all that is in my heart
i want to give you my everything
but i’ve failed you so many times
how can i stand here before you
when i begin to steal what only belongs to you
i am able to bring you nothing that isn’t already yours
i am so ashamed of what i ever called my own
take what i have, take these broken remains
what can i give you that you don’t already deserve
you laid down your life when i refused to give mine

A new band I have been raving about not only sounds cool but can really write better than 99% of the other bands out today.

A Question of Heaven by Iced Earth.

Dead Boy's Poem by Nightwish.

And Then There Was Silence by Blind Guardian.

Space-Dye Vest by Dream Theater.

Candlelight Fantasia by Symphony X.

Those songs rule me.

Symphony X-Communion and the Oracle:Just something about this song really gets to me. Very moving even though its part of a concept album of pretty fantastical themes.

Dream Theater-A Change of Seasons: I'm a fan of music that isn't very melancholy and holds pretty optimistic themes. This song just captures the essence of what life is really all about for me, really touching.

Finntroll-Take your pic, I can relate to this music on a very personal level as I am a 9 foot troll who lives under a bridge in New Jersey.

Yes - Siberian Khatru

This has got to be one of my all time favorite tunes period. Heard it once before I even knew what prog was, let alone progressive metal.

--------------------------------------------------------------
Sing, bird of prey;
Beauty begins at the foot of you. Do you believe the manner?
Gold stainless nail,
Torn through the distance of man
As they regard the summit. Even Siberia goes through the motions.
Hold out and hold up;
Hold down the window. Outbound, river,Hold out the morning that comes into view. Bluetail, tailfly.River running right on over my head. How does she sing?
Who holds the ring? And ring and you will find me coming.
Cold reigning king,
Hold all the secrets from you
As they produce the movement. Even Siberia goes through the motions.
Hold out and hold up;
Hold down the window. Outbound, river,Hold out the morning that comes into view. Bluetail, tailfly.River running right over the outboard, river,
Bluetail, tailfly,
Luther, in time.
Hold down the window;
Hold out the morning that comes into view.
Warm side, the tower;
Green leaves reveal the heart spoken Khatru. Gold stainless nail,
torn through the distance of man as they regard the summit.
Cold reigning king,
Shelter the women that sing
As they produce the movement.
River running right on over my head
Outboard, river.Bluetail, tailfly,
Luther, in time,
Suntower, asking,
Cover, lover,
June cast, moon fast,
As one changes,
Heart gold, leaver,
Soul mark, mover,
Christian, changer,
Called out, saviour,
Moon gate, climber,
Turn round, glider.

Gah, I forgot Art of Life by X-Japan. One of the most lyrically and musically beautiful songs I've heard. Worthy of posting the lyrics, I'd think...

Desert rose
Why do you live alone
If you are sad
I'll make you leave this life
Are you white, blue or bloody red
All I can see is
drowning in cold grey sand

The winds of time
You knock me to the ground
I'm dying of thirst
I wanna run away
I don't know how to set me free to live
My mind cries out feeling pain

I've been roaming to find myself
How long have I been
feeling endless hurt
Falling down, rain flows into my heart
In the pain I'm waiting for you

Can't go back
No place to go back to
Life is lost, flowers fall
If it's all dream, now wake me up
If it's all real, just kill me

I'm making the wall inside my heart
I don't wanna let my emotions get out
It scares me to look at the world
Don't want to find myself
lost in your eyes

I tried to drown my past in grey
I never wanna feel more pain
Run away from you
without saying any words
What I don't wanna lose is love

Through my eyes
Time goes by like tears
My emotion's losing the color of life

Kill my heart
Release all my pain
I'm shouting out loud
Insanity takes hold over me

Turning away from the wall
Nothing I can see
The scream deep inside
reflecting another person in my heart
He calls me from within
"All existence you see before you
must be wipe out
Dream, reality, memories, and yourself"

I begin to lose control of myself
My lust is so blind, destroys my mind
Nobody can stop
my turning to madness
No matter how you try to
hold me in your heart

Why do you wanna raise these walls
I don't know the meaning of hatred
My brain gets blown away
hearing words of lies
I only want to hold your love

Stab the dolls filled with hate
Wash yourself with their blood

Drive into the raging current of time
Swing your murderous weapon
into the belly the Earth

Shout and start creating confusion
Shed your blood for pleasure
And what for love
What am I supposed to do

I believe in the madness called now
Past and future prison my heart
Time is blind
But I wanna trace my love
on the wall of the time
over pain in my heart

Art of life
Insane blade stabbing dreams
Try to break all truth now
But I can't heal this broken heart in pain
Cannot start to live, cannot end my life
Keep on crying

Close my eyes
Time breathes I can hear
All love and sadness melt in my heart

Dry my tears
Wipe my bloody face
I wanna feel me
living my life outside my walls

You can't draw a picture of yesterday
So you're painting your heart
with your blood
You can't say no
Only turning the wheel of time
with a rope around your neck

You build a wall of morality and take
a breath from between the bricks
You make up imaginary enemies
And are chased by them
You're trying to commit suicide
You're satisfied with your prologue
Now you're painting
your first chapter black

You're putting the scraps of life together
And trying to make
an asylum for yourself
You're hitting a bell at the edge of stage
And you're trying to kill me

I believe in the madness called now
Time goes flowing, breaking my heart
Wanna live, can't let my heart kill myself
Still I haven't found what I'm looking for

Art of life
I try to stop myself
But my heart goes to destroy the truth
Tell me why
I want the meaning of my life
Do I try to live
Do I try to love in my dream

I'm breaking the wall inside my heart
I just wanna let my emotions get out
Nobody can stop
I'm running to freedom
No matter how you try
to hold me in your world

Like a doll carried by the flow of time
I sacrificed the present moment
for the future
I was in chains of memory half-blinded
Losing my heart
Walking in the sea of dream

Close my eyes
Rose breathes I can hear
All love and sadness melt in my heart

Dry my tears
Wipe my bloody face
I wanna feel me
living my life outside my mind

Dreams can make me mad
I can't leave my dream
I can't stop myself
Don't know what I am
What lies are truth
What truths are lies

I believe in the madness called now
Time goes flowing, breaking my heart
Wanna live, can't let my heart kill myself
Still I haven't found what I'm looking for

Art of life
I try to stop myself
But my heart goes to destroy the truth
Tell me why
I want the meaning of my life
Do I try to live
Do I try to love

Art of life
An eternal bleeding heart
You never wanna breathe your last
Wanna live, can't let my heart kill myself
Still I'm feeling for

A rose is breathing love in my life

Yes - Siberian Khatru - FUCKING A

That opening riff from Steve Howe is probably the single best riff ever to grace the universe and all it's galaxies, the song itself is the most n-sync piece of music between god-like musicians ever. Yes I like this song.

4. A Trace Of Blood

Touching ground
Going home to those I miss
Safe and sound
Weeks of exile turn to bliss
But there's something in her voice
When she is calling me
A trace of blood to lead me
Through roads of agony
With blood taste in my mouth
And clouds before my eyes
I kneel beside the bed
Where my bleeding dryad lies
Three young souls in misery

Hitting ground
Nausea wakes me up at dawn
Hopes are found
Dissected, turned and then
Withdrawn
A chair of steel and wire
Her legs are open wide
Helpless in myself I stand there cold beside
The doctors stay away
Leave us with this dismay
To see the colors of a miracle
Fade and turn to gray
Then a cry and rivers of blood
Flow so sadly
Bringing you
Our dreams pour into a cold tray
Two young souls in misery
Missing You

I never knew your name but I will miss you just the same
I was to live for you I lost the will to live at all the day you came
It'll never be the same but I will love you just the same
You were there to be the first, how wonderful
Now I will always fear to hope again

The irony
Of seeing me whispering through her skin
So joyfully
To our child there deep within
Or of when she called to me
To tell me cheerfully
That she had seen your shape
On a hospital screen
And of nurses being concerned
That you never moved or turned
Too late we see the warnings
Too late we learn

I never saw your face and now you're gone without a trace
Except the trace of blood that's deeply scarred into my eyes
To fill your place
It'll never be the same but I will love you just the same
I was prepared to be your father
How can I ever prepare for that again?
Still I follow that trace of blood
Always leading back to you
Hollow years of damming that flood
Two young souls in misery
Missing you... missing you...

"Scarred" is an all time fave song - compositional brilliance IMO. It was more inspirational than tearful for me tho'.

Yngwie's "My Own Enemy" just makes me sob each time I hear it.

Kamelot's "Don't you Cry" certainly does make me cry. Especially when I had it played at my mom's funeral a couple months ago. Heh, my family all asked if I had played it on guitar myself and got someone to sing it. Alas, I denied that! The song made it easier to cope with.

Tolkki's lyrics are inspiring lately. "Venus in the Morning" got a tear jerk from me. "Ethereal" was the word that came to mind for it. "forget the future, don't live the past, live for today because life goes so fast". That struck a chord in me.

Kotipelto's lyrics on "Falling into fantasies" (maybe because I'm heartbroken to hear that he's taken, ) as well as "Beauty has Come" and "Movement of the Nile".

~Gwen

There are only 3 songs I can think of right off hand that actually get an emotional response from me:

1) The pre-chorus from Floyd's "Comfortably Numb". I think it's a combination of the music and the lyrics, but this one gets to me.

2) "The Accolade II" from you know who. The part right around 3:15 where he says "This Tyrant's reign is through! I will stand and fight, will you?". something about this always hits me. I think it's the theme of a man standing up to fight his oppressor, even in the face of intense struggle that makes this so awesome! And the later part ("I wish to stay...") gets me too. In 3 lines the guys totally capture your senses. Amazing! By the way, I thnk it's simple to just assume he's singing about a woman (his wife, whatever), but in the beginning of the song he's talking about his dead father. Is that really who who's talking to in this part?

3) The chorus of Annihilator's "Pheonix Rising" is another one that gets me. Singing about his lost love, the pre-chorus goes "Then you'll rise, right before my eyes. On wings that fill the skies. Like a pheonix rising!" This is just a beautiful song from a once great band. Unfortunately the quality of song writing diminished significantly beyond album #3. However, albums 1 and 2 are some of the best power metal (with some incedible guitar work by Jeff Waters) in my opinion. He was awesome on these 2. He became extremely repetitive and less interesting on the latter albums. A real shame as he was once my favorite guitar player and they were once my favorite band. Any guesses as to who my new favorites are? Ha ha.

Yes Friend of Moloch......you have yet named another I forgot to mention, although I wanted to name only a few and I wanted to name things ppl here have more than likely heard before. I think the best parts of the song lyrically are when the female voiceovers come in and represent the conciousness. This song has at least a little of every style of music X-Japan is about......piano, violin, cello, and wicked metal music! Any fan of metal that doesn't hear Art of Life is truly missing out from both a musically and lyrically point of view.
