Your first Extreme Metal album(s)

If you count Opeth then it was Still Life, but that's not very extreme IYAM. So if I remember correctly it was a few discs from Dimmu Borgir a friend gave me. I think Once Was Not was the first extreme metal album I actually purchased.

Yes, yes. When I first read this topic, I was thinking what was the first metal album you heard. I am pretty sure I had the whole concept wrong. I mean, those were the first two albums I picked up by myself, bought, and stuck with. But the Metallica and Slayer were the first two bands I heard and then I started to branch of and find various types of metal.

I remember I bought Colony by Inflames and Hatebreeder by Children of Bodom. The first extreme metal song I heard though was Zero Signal by Fear Factory on the Mortal Kombat soundtrack. My taste has changed significantly over the past 10 years.

This was my first extreme metal album as well. I believe the year was 1997. I also like i still even though I dont listen to it that often anymore.

Same here... well it was my first 'black metal' album. :p I'd already been a big fan of thrash and death metal for a good 3 years or so.
Um.... trying to think of my first extreme metal albums... perhaps Slayer- Decade of Aggression? Or possibly Obituary- Cause of Death and Cannibal Corpse- Tomb of the Mutilated. My memory is hazy concerning those glory days.

The first one I actually owned was Cannibal Corpse - Tomb of the Mutilated.

Back when my parents monitored everything I bought and worried about violent entertainment.... atleast it was the cathedral art version...

A friend of a friend copied it for me... so in a sense I didn't actually own the album. But I listened to it over and over and over again nonetheless. :)

Wait... I have my alternate arts screwed up.

This is the one I meant.

I heard this back in eighth grade...had no idea what it was, only found it like a year ago. Still don't have the album.

First album was In Flames - The Jester Race.

I must say Dimmu's PEM is really annoying to listen to on headphones, but on the stereo it just sounds epic. :kickass:
And I'm sorry, anyone who doesn't hear similiraties with Necromantia is deaf.

Hahaha this brings back memories, yeah I had that MK soundtrack too, though not for the metal but the trance tracks..what a great soundtrack compilation IMO, Napalm Death's Twist The Knife was on that too if I remember correctly
