Slayer - Show No Mercy
Incantation - Primordial Domination
Dismember - The God that Never Was
Atheist - Piece of Time
The Faceless - Akeldama

And I also remember that I used to be a Lamb of God fanboy around the time I got those albums.

Back in the early 90's...

Metallica - AJFA
Megadeth - Rust in Peace

First death metal: Amorphis - Tales From the Thousand Lakes
First black metal: Emperor - Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk

The first "extreme metal" band I got into was Cradle of Filth and so I began collecting their albums. I soon got into black metal, Norwegian in particular, and began buying what I could find in stores - Gorgoroth, Dimmu Borgir etc. At the time, stores generally weren't carrying much black metal and if they did the price for a CD would be around $30. Eventually stores began to sell some of the classic albums. CDs are much cheaper now but I remember Burzum's Hvis Lyset Tar Oss album costed me $32 back then.

And actually, a local and independently run shop (who only had a small metal selection) started importing Burzum CDs and for a while, they were selling really well!

Nah, pretty sure Kreator are fucking extreme dude.

THRASH TIL DEATH

But really. Everything after PtK sounds not so extreme...I'd give you Terrible Certainty, since it's a sloppy fuckfest of aggression, but I don't buy Extreme Aggression as extreme metal, Coma of Souls is less heavy, and then comes their 90s stuff. I guess you could argue that Violent Revolution and Enemy of God are just Arch Enemy with Mille on vox, but only if you like it in the ass.
