Meaning each metal-genre, and possibly something else. Your three fave death, three fave black, three fave viking, three fave power....

or just 1 or two faves from them

This means you list all, at least all the important, metal genres. Such things as "glam metal" and "symphonic metal" and "epic metal" and all that stuff is not necessary. But folk is still necessary.

Maybe if i list all the ABSOLUTELY MANDATORY GENRES THAT YOU WILL FILL BAND(S) WITH OR YOU WONT FILL AT ALL.

Power
Thrash
Death
Black
Viking
Folk
Doom
Heavy
Speed
Gothic
Progressive
Gothenburg/melodeath

Grindcore, as it is not a metal genre, is not mandatory. But it would be good to list grindcore too.

If someone thinks this thread is annoying, you dont need to post.

The reason why i like to do it this way is that you can easily compare the varying tastes of an individual who likes this and that...does one like this type of death if he or she likes this or that black? If someone is a brutal DM fan, what would be the best/least worst power band for him?

Oh, and regardless wheter you hate some of those genres, the rules apply to you too.

I, of course, wont be saying anything....

Thrash - Anthrax and Metallica (Pre-Load Metallica natch)
Death - Deicide and Vader
Heavy - Iron Maiden and Judas Priest
Progressive - Opeth and Death
Heavy Rock - AC/DC and Led Zeppelin

I'm not much of a fan of any of the other genres.

Sorry, I don't understand the rules - should I not have posted unless I was going to fill in ALL the fields?

NWOBHM: Saxon, Satan, Holocaust
Traditional Metal: Judas Priest, Metal Church, Manowar
Thrash: Kreator, Overkill, Sodom
Power: Jag Panzer, (early) Fates Warning, Manilla Road
Speed: Running Wild, Grave Digger, (early) Blind Guardian
Death: Immolation, Obituary, Suffocation
Black: Grand Belial's Key, (early) Bathory, Darkthrone

NWOBHM: Venom, Motorhead, (does Celtic Frost count?)
Thrash: old Metallica, Megadeth, Devastation
Power Metal: Iron Maiden, Hammerfall, Running Wild
Progressive: Dream Theater, Symphony X, Rhapsody
Death Metal: Decapitated, Morbid Angel, Cryptopsy
Prog Death: Opeth, Agalloch, Extol
Black Metal: Immortal, Emperor, Dissection
Classic Rock: Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Van Halen

Finally, someone with a fucking clue. But, Viking isn't a real genre.

OK...let's see.

Power: Celesty, Manticora, Heavenly
Thrash: Artillery, Dark Angel, Evildead
Death: Intestine Baalism, Kronos, Saprogenic
Black: Eikenskaden, Negurã Bunget, Maniac Butcher
Folk: Àsmegin, Månegarm, Moonsorrow
Doom: Morgion, Orodruin, Electric Wizard
Gothic: Ador Dorath, Ram-Zet, n/a (I like 2 "gothic" bands)
Progressive: Ark, Sun Caged, maudlin of the Well
Gothenburg/melodeath: Holymarsh, Arise, Baal

Woo.

Power: Iced Earth, Symphony X, Conception

Thrash: Megadeth, Testament, early Metallica

Death: Nile, Necrophagist, Bloodbath

Black: ...and Oceans, Dimmu Borgir

Folk: Agalloch, early Opeth

Doom: My Dying Bride, Solitude Aeturnus, Veni Domine

Heavy: Nevermore

Gothic: Katatonia (closest category they come to), My Dying Bride, Moonspell

Progressive: Queensryche (!!), Dream Theater, Fates Warning

Gothenburg/melodeath: In Flames, Dark Tranquillity

That's all I got.

But, Viking isn't a real genre.

WHAT? Your MAMA wasn't a real genre, you...!!

Seriously, viking metal is not based on lyrics. Its the style of keyboards, the style of riffs etc...Epic metal with viking lyrics is not viking, by the way. It has to have the viking sound.

Thrash - Sepultura, Mokoma, the Haunted
Death - Nile, Vital Remains, Vader
Gothenburg - In Flames, Soilwork, Insomnium
Goth - Katatonia, Charon, Paradise Lost
Black - Aborym, Emperor (say what you will) And Oceans (same)
Industrial - Skymning, the Project Hate, Scarve

I'm bad at this sort of thing...I can't think of any genres, or band names.

There's no such thing. Most bands that can be considered "viking" metal are basically folk blackened metal, anyways, so I use that term. If a band has no Viking themes but still gets called viking, that's silly.

Yeah, those 3 are always hard to catergorize, but where would you put them? Melodic death? :err:

Opeth = Progressive metal with harsh/death vocals. They have nothing else "death-y" about them, and therefore don't belong in the genre.

Agalloch = Gothic/neo-folk, but more the latter. I don't see where you got death out of them at all.

Extol = I don't really know, kinda prog-y metalcore, maybe.

Power: Falconer, Hammerfall, Lost Horizon
Thrash: Testament, Dark Angel, Metallica, Slayer(sorry needed to put 4 :p)
Death: Cannibal Corpse, Internecine, Cattle Decapitation
Black: Darkthrone, Burzum, Graveland
Viking: Falkenbach, Einherjer
Folk: Cruachan, Elvenking, Of the wand and the moon(not metal, still fucking brilliant)
Doom: Electric Wizard
Heavy: Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest
Progressive: Evergrey
Gothenburg/melodeath: Opeth, Arch Enemy
Grindcore: Lymphatic Phlegm, Early Carcass, Early Napalm Death

Disagreed.

Power - Virgin Steele, Blind Guardian, Manticora
Thrash - ARGH HOW DO I CHOOSE? Right now, Overkill, Heathen, and I suppose Metallica.
Death - Dismember, Vader, Necrophagist
Black - Deströyer 666 (I know, I'm cheating), Nokturnal Mortum, Dub Buk
Viking - Bathory
Folk - Skyclad (cheating again)
Doom - Just started getting into Candlemass
Heavy - Judas Fucking Priest, WASP, Iron Maiden
Speed - Judas Fucking Priest again, early Blind Guardian, Agent Steel
