Your Top 2009 releases so far...

Death,Magic,Doom--Candlemass-- Best album I've heard from this band in years. Imo, much better than KOTGI. Rob Lowe's vocal performance is phenominal. Lars is probably the best guitar player in Traditional Doom. Composition is second to none. This is not just one of the best records in 2009, it's fuckin' mandatory.

I would have to go with the Bruce Franklin / Rick Wartell duo!
I seriously think they are as solid for doom as Tipton / Downing and Smith / Murray are for trad metal.

I picked up the album Ill Innocence (its 2008 but oh well) by Gallhammer last week and I was wondering if anyone else had listened to them. They're an all female Japanese band that plays doom/black metal.

This is really good. The orchestrative use of keyboards and the polyrhythmic tendencies remind of Orphanage, only without the gothic overtones. Nice to see someone do interesting/complex arrangements and keep it heavy.

So far I think the new My Dying Bride is my favorite album this year, but I'm guessing ND is going to take that place later on.
