People do tend to go out of their elements on Ayreon albums, and to do different things from what they do with their own bands, so I think it's best to reserve judgment until hearing samples from the actual album.

Exactly, progmetalpilgrim--Ayreon's not supposed to be taken with excess seriousness. It's there for FUN, not to provide the solution to all the world's problems. Just because someone doesn't have the required sense of humor doesn't mean that Ayreon sucks--it means it's not their style. And...

Name some of your other favorite bands (besides Symphony X--duh ;) ) and that'll help. :)

Kenneth--With Arjen's music, you've got to approach it with tongue firmly in cheek. It's not meant to be serious...the cliches are there for amusement value.

I didn't see anything wrong with Floor Jansen on that album. Swanö had a particularly fitting voice for Spock in "Songs of the Ocean"...I mean, if Leonard Nimoy could actually sing, that might be how it would sound. Don't intend to post here regularly--just had to comment when I saw Ayreon.
