I've checked the amp out as much as possible. It seems to me that the amp has the potential to be good, but they probably used cheap pots, etc. etc. Hopefully they didn't crap out on the transformers either, because that would be very bad. But if I bought the amp, I would definitely swap out...

It could just be that vista may be unstable. Even moreso than Windows XP.

I suggest keeping the 81 if your guitar is made out of mahogany. I've found in my personal experiments that the 85 sounds best in the bridge when you have a real rock solid maple guitar. Just sounds better to my ears personally.

Did you guys replace the guitar's bridge at all recently? Did you check the ground wire that goes from the bridge to the pickups? That could've either come loose, or needs a re-solder. Something is loose by the sounds of it, or something isn't properly soldered together.

Those amps are pretty noisy if you don't have a suppressor, so I suggest getting it looked at by an amp tech. But since you have the combo version, it could just be the characteristics of the amp itself since the combo versions are made to break up easier and faster at a lower volume. My...

Might be your settings. My friend's 5150 would hiss no matter what, so we had to slap a noise suppressor in the FX loop. Shut the thing right up. I think it might be dust in your circuitry. Do you keep your combo covered when you're not using it?

Schecter's trying to garnish some attention away from ESP and Michael Amott. Competition among companies = good for consumers. 2008 is going to be a good year for buying guitar equipment.

Take it to a shop, you have to check the voltage with a meter. EMG's are wired very differently than traditional pickups. Worst case scenario: You swap out your pickups. Which you should, because those are low end EMG's anyway.

FJA does mods on those kinds of amps, and also repairs. Downside is you'll have to package it and send it via UPS or something like that. Although, good amp techs are hard to find these days, I'd say go with these guys. www.fjamods.com

The EC-1000 is a beast! If they just made it a little heavier, then you'd get some sweet smooth tone outta that thing. It seems like a lot of people use ESP guitars on this forum, huh.

That seems like a more traditional approach to guitar PU's. That pair of pickups are in almost every guitar, and I don't really hear a lot of people complaining about it. Why don't you try some DiMarzio stuff? I'm going to load a Steve's Special in my Ibanez.

Then get EMG's. But use the 85/89 combo. I have that in my custom ESP. It has the most ballsy clear tone i've ever heard. I've played my guitar through many amps, and through every amp it shines. Besides, tone is all in the fingers anyhow.

That guitar must cost a lot of money, but i think because of it's heavy body properties, the tone would be pretty awesome. I personally just hate B.C.Rich because they're pretty overpriced for all of the shitty wood and parts they use.
