2012 Presidential election thread

If George Bush could get re-elected in 2004, then Obama certainly can (and will) in 2012. I think the crazy religious stuff and overly petulant behavior in Congress will dissuade enough moderate and independent voters from voting Republican.

^ Yeah, and coupled with the fact there is no legitimate conservative candidate, it's almost a certainty that he'll get re-elected.

What does "legitimate candidate" mean? What does "conservative" mean? You guys throw these vague and extremely subjective terms around like they actually mean something.

I've never been more apathetic about an election in the six years I've been able to vote. That being said, Cthulu/Dagon gets my vote. Why vote for the lesser of evils?

And don't forget Reagan/Clinton got reelected when their party lose both sides of congress.

Wasn't it the founders intention that the legislative branch be more powerful than the executive? If American Citizens gave a damn, which they don't, and won't as long as they have cell phone reception, and access to American Idol, they would actually know who their congressional representative was, and hold said person accountable for their voting record and lack of leadership.

Chtulu/Dagon is the best choice Americans have had since Truman/Barkley.

Actually, the legislative branch often does considerable harm because they have to answer to their constituents and not the rest of the country. This is why we have had rampant pork barrel spending. Every congressman wants to go back to his district and say "Look what I brought home. Re-elect me." Even if what they brought home was the bridge to nowhere or even just funding that is far less essential and useful than other programs.

Incumbent politicians are re-elected at an overwhelming rate precisely because Americans do know what their local politicians do. It's the other 98 Senators who are fucking around.

I don't get why you have to be a prick all the damn time.

What do "words" mean, and why do we use "them"?

lol

No, but seriously, every "Republican/Conservative/Non-Democratic" candidate is unelectable.

At this point I don't think I'm going to vote, but I haven't been following things very closely. I think I'm too politically agnostic at this point to feel very strongly about particular candidates. It actually embarrasses me to see how cocksure a lot of people are about a lot of stuff. I think I would be doing my civic duty by not voting.

I'm not voting.

To those damn "it's your civic duty" people who always give me the stink-eye when I say that, I argue: it's not my civic duty. That only obscures the true reason why people are supposed to vote. Voting has somehow adopted the value that should be attributed simply to the improvement of the country; but not every election necessarily results in such improvement, so that's a false equation.

People think, "well, if I don't vote, I'm not doing anything." That's not true though. Refusing to vote can send a message just as strong as choosing to vote.

wtf

Where were all you guys last election when I was basically the only person saying "This field is trash, I'm not voting, if you think me refusing to vote is stupid and/or goes against my civic duty fuck off"? I was pretty much the only flag carrier then.

I mean, I'm glad to see more people are in line with my way of thinking but still.

One thing lot of you are fogetting about this election is that the third parties haven't set up yet. I can see Ron Paul fans voting for the libertarian party if they want to vote for a alternative to the two party. I think most of us are in line with you Richard is because the nominations for the Republicans are horrible/unelectable.

You know what, I will just write my name Peter Joseph into the president race. I will ask my fans to do the same. I definitely won't win but it will send the message to the leaders about our corrupt system.

@ King, Einh, & Cyth I completely agree with you guys. Most people who vote really shouldn't be voting. The fact that you can make the conscious decision not to vote says more about your character and convictions than people who force others to vote or feel forced to vote. When ever I do flip on some shitty channel and Puff Dickhead is pushing that rock the vote shit (with a complete leftist agenda) it reaffirms everything I think and know about the influence I constantly resist.

I do think I'm voting for Paul but not without significant research and a willingness to be unbiased.

You have a pretty unique definition of prick. I wish no candidate would get elected IE not voting. Then the organized, legalized crime that is government would be left with no leg to stand on.
