$3,900 in damages...anyone want a slightly-used 2003 Saab 9-3?

you never take your car for body work to the dealer ... especially if it's a lease that is up in a few months ...

we have th ebest guy ever. His name is Tar. He's east indian and knows all about cutting corners, doing temp jobs and back-alley ways to keep a junker running. He's also honest as any man you'll ever meet and nice as hell. funny too.

sucks ass yo.

i must be very lucky with my vehicles. even when i drove trucks and offroaded a lot, the worst damage i did was bend my suspension a bit. a few hundo at a shop and it was fine. i've even launched my WRX a few times accidentally, and other than ripping off some body panelling, no real damage. *knocks on wood*

That's because you drive Toyota's, so you never REALLY drove off road.

O RLY. ya'll can have yer roadpigs that get stuck on everything bigger than a pebble because they weigh 14 tons. the only reason i've never had to yank a Chevy off the trail is because they are never actually on the trail. plenty of stuck Ferds getting pulled by my gutless 4-banger tho. :loco:

we have a company here in columbus which regularly attacks insurance companies and repair shops in their ads for some of the shit they try to pull...they are such an irritant that insurance companies actually advertise against Three C body shops...

from their site:

Based on our experience, we have identified some common pitfalls many consumers face when having their vehicle repaired. More pitfalls will be added on a regular basis.

Number One

Most people have little or no idea what their insurance policy really says. They think they have "full coverage" and "their insurance company will take care of everything". They come to us to have their vehicle repaired and are shocked to find out they don't have rental car coverage. Then, after checking further, they discover the policy gives their insurance company permission to use NON-FACTORY parts. You'll want to avoid this pitfall.

We encourage you to get that policy out and read it until you know what you pay for every time you make your payment. Call your agent and have him or her review it with you. Feel free to contact us with your questions. There's a real good chance we've seen your insurance company in action. There are many solid insurance companies and agents out there with excellent products. Make sure you really have the "full coverage" you think you have.

Number Two

Most people are not prepared to make decisions they're forced to make when their vehicle is damaged. We have people call us and say: "I just wrecked my car. What do I have to do to get it fixed"? If you have avoided pitfall number one, some of these decisions will be easy to make. Other decisions can be thought through in advance. Sit down with your spouse, a close friend, your agent, etc., and ask: "If I was involved In a collision, what would be some of the decisions I might need to make, and how would I make them?"

Please feel free to contact one of our claims centers or e-mail us with any questions you have so you will be better prepared. We'll be glad to answer them and help you avoid this pitfall.

Number Three

You have just been involved In an accident. You have avoided pitfalls 1 and 2. The next pitfall to avoid is thinking since the insurance company is "paying the bill" they should make the decisions. People forget it's their money the insurance company is using to pay for the repairs. They faithfully make their premium payments counting on the insurance company to be there for them. And then, they want to tell you how you spend it. It's you money. It's your car. You make the decisions.

Again, I DID NOT HAVE A CHOICE at 7:30 AM on Saturday morning. Besides, the mere fact that the car IS a lease that is coming up in less than 3 months is all the more reason to make sure they do their own fix (in this case). I can't have $1 worth of discrepancy when I turn it in, b/c every $1 is going to count. If a Saab dealership works on it, I'm no longer responsible. That's just the way it is.

Also, I don't know when the last time any of you checked what Saab parts cost at a "local" guy, but it ain't pretty. This isn't body work, this is fixing the entire fucking driveshaft & front end stability control.

a good, trustworthy mechanic is one of the best relationships you can ever cultivate.

indeed. he's kept our vehicles running at a minimum of cost, and knows all the ways to keep a car running WITHOUT repairing it... such as the blown head gasket in our truck. So he doesn't get any money for it... but god knows we'll always use him as our mechanic while we're in this town.

well, that's what you get for drunk driving you moron.

I really had to fight the urge to say this in both threads.

Seriously, drink driving = dumbest thing ever.

I know man, that's why I didn't offer my input before 'cause I know you didn't need to hear it. I just REALLY have a thing against drink driving.

I'm just kidding really. Trust me, I'm well aware of the stupidity of my decision to drive that night. I normally would never get behind the wheel when I have that much to drink. Which is why I'm not looking for sympathy, I'm just making a(nother) stupid thread.
