I use a dula amp setup as I am the only guitarist in my band. And this week I scored a Mesa Triple Rectifier for 799$. Is this amp going to sound good for brutal deathcore alongside a 6505 or JCM800 modded Peavey Windsor?? I am about to buy a 6505 & I am wondering if I should trade the Mesa for something else or keep it. The price was too good to pass up.

My band plays Drop Ab deathcore and I have 2 Avatar 4x12's with Vintage 30's

Why not just try it out to see how it sounds? IMO the Mesa should be killer (as would be the 6505, they're just different).

I just figured a Triple Recto for 800$ was too good a deal to pass. I traded in a 6505+ on it b/c I hated my plus model. It had to much treble and the mids were a little odd to me.

rectos are badass for deathmetal/core, so are 6505s... i use both, you should too

Really bryan?? I tried it outta the 1960 marshall cab and couldnt get any nuts outta it with an 8 string guitar. But i think it will be a lot diff story with my giant ass avatar cabs. Any pedals i need for the recto?? I used to run the 6505 straight amp and ISP decimator. But if it needs a boost i dont mind buying one. I use Fender HM Strats tuned to Ab with Dimarzio Super Distortion and Tonezone pickups...

In my opinion the Recto almost always needs a boost for tighter tones - there is just too much bass going on to keep the mutes nice and tight otherwise. This may change depending on the guitar and cab but I probably use a boost 9 out of 10 times. I use a Maxon OD9 Pro+ but anything that tightens the lows will work.

Ok ill have to go check out a bunch of different boosts. I have never really boosted an amp so i have no idea what kind of settings or anything to use. I typicaly have always ran guitar-amp-gate.

6505 + Recto is a killer combination, +1 on using a boost (for both amps)

Also I think the 1960 cabs with g12-75 blows, i'd swap it for a different cab

If this is just for a live rig, you might also want to consider just using one amp and running to two cabs, or use two of the same amp if you are running to more cabs. I prefer a symmetrical sound coming from stage.

I have 2 cabs. I like to use 1 head for bass and 1 head for my mids/highs & I A/B between the 2 amps for switched off parts. It mimics 2 guitar bands better than 1 head with the same tone or 2 of the same heads. It also doubles as the amps i use in my studio for bands. I think im gonna go Recto and 5150III i think the razor sharp tightness of the 5150III and the soginess of the Triple Recto will be a perfect compliment to eachother...

Out topic but holy shit, 800$ for a Triple Recto... Where I live they are almost 3000€ (2000 used)...

RLab thats why i bought it here in the us they are usually 1200-1400 used. $800 used was basically stealing the thing...

Yeah I guess it is but still, 1200 is really cheap too :D
And to help you, Architects used 6505 in Hollow Crown which have Ab songs if I remember correctly, and the guitar tone is pretty awesome :)

You're really missing out by not boosting amps... the majority of people on this forum are into boosting EVERY amp. Sneap uses tubescreamers as a boost much more often than not.

You should really get a nice boost before going off with multi amp and cab setups...

What is the benefit to running a boost?? & what kind of settings do you use?? I have always been a guitar-amp-suppressor and used absolutely no effects but a cable :D im willing to try it but what kinda boost is recommended and would i put it in front of my aby switch or buy a separate boost for each amp??

I have been running 2 amps to get my band sounding at a competing level with other deathcore/hardcore bands we play with as I am the only guitarist in a genrea filled with 2 guitar bands. THe 2 amps and cabs & ABY switch is almost nescessary to not sound like a joke. Especially when we are opening for touring acts...

Tube screamer man, can't go wrong, a Ibanez TS9 or TS808, although for 808 i would Recommend the Maxon OD808 as it's cheaper and does pretty mcuh the same thing, might be a little smoother, but not by much

if you want something crazy Keeley modded tube screamers, boss metal zone or super distortion pedals.

alternatives which are revisions of tube screamers are Bad Monkley over drive, Green Rhino, or BBE Green Screamer

all of it will tighten your low end, give you a mid boost and propell you into deathcore territory

Whitechapel for instance, Alex Wade uses a Ibanez TS9 into a EVH 5150 III amp.

i myself won't play Rectos or 5150/6505's without a boost

my personal recomendation would be the Maxon OD808, start with gain to zero, tone at noon, and level at max and tweak from there

I have a 5150 and a Mesa Mark IV, and I can't play either of them WITHOUT a boost anymore....the low end of an un-boosted amp sounds like shit to me now.
