A LIFE ONCE LOST, EPICUREAN, ION VEIN and ARISE AND RUIN COMPLETE LINEUP

Not to poke the bear any further....bla bla bla.

It's one thing when you or anyone posts their difference of opinion or disappointment, but when you get insulting is what I can't fucking stand. For example, I know you & Jason are friends (I guess), but fucking comments like saying he's cheap cuz he's jewish is just fucking insulting. He may brush it off, but it clearly offended him. So, what about all of our other potential jewish metal fans who like to hang out here. It's not fair to expect that they have a sense of humor about it. I'm laid back enough, but if someone were to bring up my heritage as an insult over and over again, I would be pissed too.

Also, there were another couple posts on another thread that really pissed me off:

OUCH on that one....she must have sponsored that crap Metalcore then. tell her thanks.

Actually, she sponsored Darkane. But once again, you made a bullshit assumption that someone you didn't know would be responsible for something bad. Way to make her feel good about helping the fest. Yeah, you're supportive.

Also:

did you get your coupon for Hot Topic too?

Damn, this one actually pissed me off more than anything you've said today. How fucking ignorant. There is nothing Hot Topic about our fest!! A couple HT-ish bands, and you label it HT or SOTU Jr.?! For fuck's sake, Hot Topic sells Amon Amarth shirts too...so if we had them play, would you make the same bullshit comment. Yeah, it was funny haha But I saw it as insulting yet another person who paid their hard earned money (most of which , our sponsors had to dig deep due to them not having much to spare either) to help the fest. Now, I'm sure Ken has a thick skin & could give a fuck what you think, but you're still making people feel bad for being a part of or supporting extra what we're doing. You might as well just come out & say "why the fuck are you giving your money away for such a shit fest".

Sorry, I just don't see the value in such comments...actually, I see the detriment. I'm just so done with the line of thinking that it's better for the traffic on our board. Fuck that! I'd rather have no traffic than the kind that can insult people for either their heritage, their taste in music, or worst of all...their affiliation with the fest.

Plus, don't for a second try to convince anyone that you're coming all 3 days to support the fest! BULL-FUCKING-SHIT!!! You are coming for PURELY selfish reasons!! You are comming to check out the bands you like...period. They just so happen to be playing the Powerfest. I'm pretty sure that behind the scenes you probably tell people that you're ashamed that "your" bands are playing such a shit fest like Powerfest. So don't pull that propganda shit with me....I'm not fucking stupid!!

And any slight possible ounce of support you may truly have for the fest is also 100% selfish...I'm sure that you're hoping that if you bitch & complain enough, we may actually start inviting more of your suggested bands...even if it's just to shut you up. It's nothing more than a manipulation tactic & that's bullshit too!

Damn, what I would give to talk to someone who knew you back in the day & honestly have them tell me what you were like back then. Hmmm...are you truly a nice guy who hides behind a computer? Were you picked on when you were younger & this is your way of getting back at society for all those years of torment. Or...are you no different online as you are in person & you enjoy bullying people pschologically because it gives you a sense of superiority. Hmm...I really don't know...but I guess none of them would surprise me.

OK...sorry for the rant everyone. I'm really just a wit's end & fed up. I really wish I could just say fuck it & not care, but I can't...I'm just way too passionate about this fest & it drives me nuts. :loco: :puke:

Well, it could be something all of you do on Friday night at the Colliseum or at the hotel while all the bands are playing before Iced Earth. :p

Like I said, I've never heard much more than Iced Earth, Testament, Suidakra, and Tyr - and they all absolutely rock. I at least intend to give the other bands a shot, and form my opinions after I see how they play live, since I don't own any of their studio works and haven't heard more than a track or two here or there from any of the other bands.

I intend to be as close to the front as possible at all times. :headbang:

Dude, don't feel bad about it at all! This is your show and you do what you want with it. I skim past about 90% of Diabolik's remarks because they contribute very little to any real discussion on the board. Most of what takes place is people complaining about his negative comments. He is entitled to his opinions and comments. I just find it strange that SO MANY of his comments are negative. You wouldn't think anyone would be that negative, or if they were they wouldn't feel a need to type it out all the time on computer screen, but that's his deal. It does look bad for the forum though...

I totally understand what you said about potentially banning so much negativity. It doesn't make sense to have your own forum be a place to bash the fest. Actually, that fucking sucks! Just look at it as a business decision. You wouldn't walk down the street with signs that say "Hey, come bash Powerfest at the Powerfest Forum."

Anyway, didn't have much of a point to this post except to say that there are those of us who are glad you're doing what you're doing and we appreciate it! I don't like the line-up this year, but I'll still be there with bells on and horns up! Thanks!

Thanks for the indignance on my behalf :) As you say, though, I just consider the source. Hell, I barely know what Hot Topic is, I'm still in 80's mode where I consider Spencer's Gifts to be the greatest store ever put into a mall. Where else can you get Iron Maiden posters AND edible underwear??

Ken

The guy who basicly said the board is doing more harm than good, is probably right.

The main reason I don't use this as much as I could is because there is always a TON of negativity, and it's a huge turn off.

....ESPECIALLY, when it's judgemental and ignorance based bantering (like the first 3 pages of this thread).

I know and like all but 2 of the bands (that I haven't heard yet). Those are most likely to play early Friday, so, even if they are the obviously feared "metalcore", I hope to get a chance to hear them for the first time!

When YOU decide to put together an event like this, than YOU can pick the performers....and shouldn't ever have to take shit from any whiney geeks for it! :kickass:

I'm not hating the Epicurean .. there is some talent there. Some of the vocal sections leave a lot to be desired, but I kind of like the guitar work, and the keys. They sure weren't on any of my lists for bands I wanted to see, but they ain't half bad.

Britt

The horrendous vocals pretty much are the ruin of Arise And Ruin. It's not like it's an untalented band, but the vocals kill it for me. I've never much cared for that kind of shouting vocals ... every time I hear it I think "White Power". Not my thing.

Hey, at least I can get some enjoyment from Ion Vein, Epicurean, and Iced Earth. It's not a total washout.

Britt

I was checking out the Epicurean page on Metal-Archives and noticed it will be very easy to remember their names. There are 3 Johns, 2 Jareds (1 spelt Jarod), and 1 James.

I guess to be in the band your name must start with a "J". :p

I'm honestly starting to reconsider our no-ban policy. I'm starting to get the feeling that some of the true Powerfest fans & supporters are starting to feel intimidated by the over-abundance of naysayers (some outright fucking assholes) & therefore are worried about posting in fear of being lashed out at or ridiculed by the current so-called supporters. :Smug:

I think a lot of people who post here consider themselves to be "supporters" just because they've been on the board for a long time, and as such, they feel that this is "their" forum, and they have the right to say whatever they want. The fact is, most promoters would have cleansed their fest's forum of these types of people long ago, and I think people here take for granted just how accomodating you guys are with differing opinions. This just goes to illustrate exactly how open-minded this fest is, and how diverse the people it's aimed at really are.

If the naysayers are truly "supporters" (and I have a hard time believing Diabolik is a "supporter" of anything outside of his narrow mindset), then they will take your comments here as a warning that they've gone too far, and they will keep their comments respectful from here on out, whether they approve or disapprove of the fest's lineup. Otherwise... ban away. It's not like they should be posting here anyway, if they hate the fest so much.

GOOD first post! Hell, I've been on this forum as long as it's existed, and even *I* avoid big chunks of the discussion for the same reason.

Boob...tell me where I said I have hated the fest...I just didnt like some of the line up. Never said it was my forum either. This forum also has kind of transformed into a chicago board also...since most of us are from the area and know each other from going to shows. I dont have a narrow mindset....I just like what I like and dont like what I dont. I dont have an in between.

To me, the Friday lineup may have some surprises. The bands might be good live. Iced Earth will be a perfect closer, especially for those that feel "cheated". Those people that feel cheated could always offer to sell their Friday ticket to someone that didn't get it yet. I'm looking forward to it. I know that I'd have a good time regardless of who would be playing. We're fucking music fans, not judges of American Idol.

. Or maybe just go back to where they came from...the ProgPower forum. :Smug:

Too bad Deron doesn't have one of the smilies with the bird finger extended I could post. :Smug: (That's a JOKE to all those hoping for some bullshit forum war).

Btw, you are standing on a slippery slope. Once you ban someone on your own forum, you can never say anything bad about me ever again. :loco:

Wow, well a lot has certainly been said on this topic....

Well, everyone is certainly entitled to their opinions.
Mine was simply that I feel the fest has done a great job in highlighting underground metal bands who benefit from exposure of a fest like this. To me, there are enough outlets for metalcore bands. So to Chris - I know your post was directed at a lot of what I said, so this is what I meant by "deserving" bands. I said before, I am not knocking the band themself, as I am not familiar with them, but from the little I have read or heard about these bands, I can safely assume they do have "core" elements.

I won't apologize for things I have said.
What I will apologize for, which others have pointed out, is aiding to some of the negative vibe around here.

I do believe that everyone here wants the fest to succeed, and we all have our own opinions as to what direction a fest can or should go to do that.

There are all kinds of fans, which could be interpreted as to who is a true supporter or whatever. This can probably partially be supported by who were the intial unconditional sponsors of the fest.

Speaking for myself, I go to shows of bands I want to see, period. I don't have the flexibility to go to shows each and every weekend for various reasons (And yes, I will pull the "Family" card out on this one).

Others here who are more of the "scenesters" do go to shows every weekend, supporting many local bands, and what not. That is completely awesome! I used to be one of those over 10 years ago.

I guess my point is directed at Rob for calling Bob out in terms of if he is a "supporter" or not. Not really even sure how valid the argument is, considering the vast majority of Powerfest attendees are there because of the bands playing and not really "to support Powerfest".

To sum up, the line up is set, and let's all get ready to have a blast! Not sure if I will be there all three days, but should probably be there Thurs and Friday.
