Agalloch rips Dream Theater

Instead of people getting upset, you're all debating over DT's best album. LAME. Dammit people, I demand a fanboy freak-out!

And for the record, Black Clouds and Sliver Linings is a damn fine album. It's right up there with Octavarium as my favorite Dream Theater album. It may even surpass it. :p

I like Symphony X, Circus Maximus, and Redemption, but can't warm up to Dream Theater for whatever reason; I like Primordial and Moonsorrow, but could never get into Agalloch. I guess the best option is... popcorn!

Well, I think it's such a ridiculous statement...that the fanboys don't even feel it's worth whining about.

Octavarium is my second fave after Metropolis and I have never understood why people dog it. BC & SL is okay to me. Some of it is incredible but some of it is just okay. I actually prefer Systematic Chaos more.

I'm going to email Bozarth right now.

 Dude, he'll be on the next flight out!!!!

Seriously though, DT are just one of those bands who have always been the butt of many jokes in the metal scene. Whether you like them or not (and I am a casual fan of them BTW) it is kind of hard to deny lots of the crap that folks say about em, which made the Agalloch comment funny.

I don't really think Agalloch has anything to be jealous about.
Completely different type of band with different goals.

To be honest, I was contemplating getting BCASL before the tour with Maiden, assuming they would play a tune or two off of it. I chose not to after seeing the video for "Withered".

Do you DT fans here like that tune?
I found it to be VERY elementary and basic both musically and lyrically for DT.

Jason, do not base that album off of that song. It's the only song on that album that I really highly dislike.

Thats one of the reasons I love Dream Theater so much. They're not afraid to back off and write simple, melodic, and catchy as fuck songs full of emotion sometimes. Just listen to the solo in that song. It's perfect. Sooo Brian May inspired.

Then again, I'm probably one of the few people on here who LOVE Falling Into Infinity...

I dunno about that:

Jealousy IS the best form of flattery.

I'll be honest, I've never given DT a fair shot, despite having listened to something like 80% of their discography. Maybe I just wasn't paying close enough attention or something, as when i was listening to it I was doing other things and nothing ever really caught my attention, but I found much of it pretty dull overall. If someone is willing to show me something that might change my mind, I'm all ears, because I feel like it's one of those things i "should" like based on my other tastes. Same with Fate's Warning, actually. And much of Evergrey, though I did *really* enjoy SDT and Recreation Day.

I really like the song Wither. The only song I don't like on that album is The Best of Times, I always skip that one.

I find that to be hilarious. The Best of Times was the only song on that album I thought was worth hearing in the first place.

I used to love the hell out of DT, but everything sine Train of Thought has been down a steep hill, in my opinion. I like like Images and Words and Awake more than anything else they've done.

WTF?????????????
That album blows dude.....
I could MAYBE put Images and Words or Scenes from a Memory up against Pale Folklore or Ashes Against the Grain..

Serious though?? WDADU?????????????

Oh well, different strokes for different folks....

haha, well to me it doesn't blow. i bought it when it came out so it's the album that made me love them. plus it's production is raw and great. awesome tones and not digitized and fake sounding like Images & Words. plus i think Dominici is a better vocalist than Labrie. i know i am probably the only one who thinks that, but i do.

that album is a classic in my book and in my top 5 albums of all time (or all genres).
