Agalloch rips Dream Theater

Out of those 25%, I can almost guarantee that the vast majority were either the aforementioned "knowledgeable" attendees who dismissed Amorphis entirely without actually giving them a chance, or the ones who are easily scared of growls.

I doubt it's the latter because they hardly played many songs that featured growls.

Sorry, just had to call you out a bit.
Even for bands you aren't into a lot (like Uriah Heep or CIIC), you preface it with, "I am into them............but"

Maybe you should check into these things before calling me on them, because I just went to check the Uriah Heep and Circle II Circle threads (as posted below) and you are incorrect. I would fully accept it if I did say it, but dude, put your money where your mouth is and check before you accuse me of saying something.

I've liked everything I've heard, but unfortunately they're a band I'm just completely unfamiliar with. So, much like the CIIC show, I will have to decline. Plus, the Devin Townsend show is the following night.

Pretty much figured this would be your response. I like what I've heard, but I don't own a damn thing by them so I doubt I'll be going either.

Eh, ok, so the technical verbiage was, "I like what I have heard....."
Point being is that it's rare you say you don't like something.
Not a BAD thing per se, just an observation.

You REALLY need to listen to some more doom (though I know you won't) if you think Pagan Altar sounds anything like Black Sabbath. Sorry dude, but you are way off on that one.

This pains me to say this, but I gotta agree with Bob. It definitely has a big Sabbath influence, though I would say they're better than what he said about them. There's more soloing and such but the core here is definitely Sabbath. And I know this is your genre Jason, but I just don't see this band being accessible to the Progpower faithful like WHW has become. Those vocals are definitely an acquired taste that will turn some off. I do agree with whoever said it though that Solitude Aeturnus would do well in addition to some other doom bands.

I would say on this forum there are more bands I like than don't, but there definitely have been a number of bands I don't. The point is though is I said "like." To me, being "into" a band means you're very familiar with them and own almost (if not all) of their catalog, whereas "like" is a more casual term where I dig them but it doesn't necessarily mean I'm gonna go out and get their discs. Just saying...

Amorphis played an incredible set, and there were a lot of songs with at least some growls. I watched people leave as a direct result of that. It was their loss, that's for sure.

Yeah like I said I enjoyed them, but I was disappointed probably because at the time my expectations were huge since they were the main reason I came along with the Hellish Rock tour.

What is that nailz?

The song is "Desolation Song" by Agalloch. Dunno who did the video though, looks like a fan.

P.S. Don't use that song as the benchmark for Agalloch's sound. If I was going to recommend a song it wouldn't be that one (even though I do enjoy it). "In The Shadow Of Our Pale Companion" is by far my favorite and, while its pretty lengthy, I think it gives a good representation of the band overall.

edit: I guess thinking about it a little more, "Desolation Song" isn't too far off, it just isn't the song that comes to mind when I personally think of Agalloch.
