I never listened to anything OMD beyond Dazzle Ships due to reputation, what do you think of that album relative to their earlier stuff?
I heard the album before this one and thought it was boring, but the ThrashMetalGuide guy reviewed this on M-A and checking it out it's surprisingly good. Has that tech-thrash-lite kind of style which is hard to do right, kinda like the newest Havok album or Wrathchild America, not difficult to follow and a bit light-hearted but a relative absence of power chords and very tight. On first impression I'm really enjoying this.
It's somewhat of an awkward transition record, not as quirky and genius as Architecture & Morality or Dazzle Ships and not as fun and bombastic as Crush.
Dazzle Ships was a commercial failure and you can hear in Junk Culture a clear attempt to change their fortunes. Still, it's a good album it just takes some time.
Yeah that Tesla Girls song definitely isn't doing it for me, too happy and bouncy for the style. Title track of Crush is really interesting though, I'll skip to that album, danke.
