Alexi passed away

I started reading through the lyrics from RRF and onwards. It's now painfully clear to me that something happened around 2011-12 and he was diagnosed with something. As I analyse his lyrics it's as if sometimes his 'i' character has a blade and is kind of Roy the Reaper like, and other times its as if he's writing from his own perspective.
He knew he was going to die and he actually told us. Look at "Your days are numbered".

RRF lyrics are more in denial, and kind of 'fuck you', but HoB is more real. Its also way darker. Like i would probably have a piss poor mood if i were told i wouldnt see 50.
A 'Halo of Blood' is what you see when you puke blood into a toilet.

Other songs on later albums are even more obvious. 'Soon departed', 'under grass and clover' just to name a few.

He also tried to silence the assholes on the internet always saying: "Alexi look so sick and thin, he should eat a burger." On 'Hold your tongue'.

Also as an extra, its my fair guess that during the recording of 'Bodom Blue Moon (the second coming)' Alexi and Kim G hooked back up again, if only for a few bangs. Thats how i interpret 'Dead mans hand on you'. They so did it!

Theres multiple songs about how Alexi will transcend this world and reap and roll in the afterlife. And as i interpret he believed in an afterlife.

I'm still struggling not to cry.

Hm, it may even be true.
Anyway, this little video has such a good vibe. They seem to get along well here (yet?).

Not sure if we ever know what the whole thing with Roope's firing was all about. Roope has denied Alexi's version. Someone else I believe has come out to support Alexi's version. But it doesn't have to be an either/or thing. That Alexi developed an ego over time is pretty clear. Roope also came across as the least enthusiastic guy in the band. So there's probably some truth in both versions.

It doesn't really surprise that roope denies alcoholism was the reason he got kicked out of the band. I mean who wouldn't deny it, it's very embarrassing. Just look at any roope interview, he is also drunk or terribly hungover. Or look at COB home videos (cobtv), his drinking was out of control.
I still think it was a band desicion, why would the other guys let alexi kick roope out just because alexi is jealous at him?

Either way im a big fan of roope and it's quite frustrating how his career ended up.

At least Halo of Blood is about the death of Tonmi Lillman or a close friend that died. Read that in a german magazine when Halo of Blood released.

Don't know about the rest, could be true

From Petri Lindroos Facebook:

It's my birthday and I am now 41. I should be feeling happy about this but actually not so much, the death of Alexi Laiho did hit me hard in my face. I considered Alexi as a friend even we haven't been keeping in touch for ages. Here's how I got to know the man around -96ish and a walk down the memory lane.
I had a band (that would end up to be Norther) and Alexander Kuoppala was an assistant teacher in the school where the other guitar player was. He got to know him and Kuoppala told him he just joined a band called Inearthed. A bunch of younger guys so he thought they could get him to buy them beers if they took Kuoppala into the bandperfectly valid reason in my eyes
We got their demo tape and it was so good, still have that copied on c-cassette at home.
We shared a rehearsal room in Espoo for a short while, an former lockup turned to rehearsal room's for bands.
Inearthed moved to Lepakko soon after and we got another place too and later on had the chance to move to Lepakko so we took it. Now we shared the room with COB, Amorphis and maybe The 69 Eyes, not so sure about that last one.
One day at Lepakko COB guys were giving us tips on playing etc...Then Alexi said that maybe in 5years they'll be something, fairly accurate prediction cos Norther's first album was released in 2002.
After Lepakko was demolished all the bands moved to Nosturi and that was our home for years to come and some serious partying.
I remember one time I walked in our rehearsal room and Alexi was rehearsing Sinergy riff's, I sat on the couch having a beer and just listened him playing. After he was done I asked if he could show some cool licks and he did and also introduced his Dunlop Jazz3 pick and handed it over to me to try it.
I play with those picks since then.
Alexi also got me into Jackson guitars, I got my first Dinky maybe around -98ish.
And ever since I saw Megadeth on Youthanasia tour in -95 and Marty Friedman with that Kelly, I wanted one. Now I have two.
I can thank COB for where I am today, when Norther made the first demo we left a copy on the table in Nosturi and COB guys played it to Ewo who worked at Spinefarm Records, he liked it and left a written note that come to the office on Monday, let's talk about getting a record deal for you guys. The note was written with so bad handwriting that we thought COB guys are joking with us. Later on heard they were just shit-faced wasted with Ewoand that the note is real.
Once I surprised Laiho and Kuoppala wrapping xmas gifts on the floor in Nosturi, for some reason I showed up early in the day and they been there all night. They were surrounded by empty beer bottles and a Whisky bottle and I can say that gift wrapping wasn't going so good for them but they had fun, so did Iand some got very uniquely wrapped gifts.
Alexi also gave me the nickname Peter Norththose were the first words out when he saw me at Tavastia in last October.
I think I looked up to him more than I ever realized, he was a very talented player and a Rockstar who changed the way Metal was played all those years ago.
I've been a fan of COB from the beginning on.
And I'll stay like that. The band is gone but music lives forever.
Thank you so fuckin much for reading.
End of fuckin story. Period.
Peter North out.

Those interviews hit hard. Seems like even everyone close to him thought he would be much better now and everyone was excited for the new stuff he would be coming up with, just like us fans.
He really was taken far too early.... He should atleast have reached his late 50s or mid 60s, even with the Rockstar lifestyle. That would have been probably 7 more albums or so. Such a shame really.

Is there a list somewhere with all the songs Alexi contributed to? I mean besides CoB and Sinergy of course.

For example stuff like the Warmen songs he did vocals for and so on. Guest appearances would probably the right word for it.

I'm asking this because I never was really into listening to Warmen. But I discovered the Somebodys Watching me Cover featuring Alexi on the vocals and I really love that one. The mix between clean vocals (which he never really did with cob except for the rebell yell cover to my knowledge) and screams is great. Gonna put that in my cob playlist.

So I'm wondering now, if there are any more hidden treasures out there I don't know of?
Ofcourse I'm also interested in guitar guest appearances, not only vocals

I love "Latomeri", this is a Klamydia cover. CoB, but it was released on a Klamydia album (album?). It's Finnish.

There's a bunch of stuff on the "Guest/Session" tab

Kylähullut

He contributed to Impaled Nazarene's Nihil album

Klamydia is one of the most famous Finnish punk bands, the front man Vesku Jokinen, Laiho and Tonmi created Kylähullut.

Later on Alexi Vesku (& Tuomas holopainen)wrote a farewell song to Tonmi after his death under Klamydia.

Indeed, thanks Tragician. That Ilta-Sanomat site sure has a lot of articles on Alexi/COB and all of them with pictures I haven't seen before.
