American Election??

everything you can imagine

high-paying jobs being shipped overseas, non-existent wage increases combined with massive inflation, health care and college becoming too expensive for most people, crumbling infrastructure, overpopulation, illegal immigration...i could go on forever

long story short, this country is totally fucked because all of our "leaders" are too busy slinging shit at each other to actually make any fucking decisions and get shit done

Well we in the UK had our college grants revoked in 1999 by a socialist government!!!!:waah::waah:

But there were caviats to this for people from the Hood!!:mad:
free education if you lived in a certain zip code

Healthcare for anyone without insurance is a nightmare. You can not afford to get sick in America without insurance. Let my throw some numbers out for you (personal exsperience):

With insurance - broken toe co pay (hospital): $100
Without insurance infected tooth (emergency care, needed it on a Friday night): $380
Without insurance trip to Dr. office: $65 (knocked down a bit too because I didn't have insurance!)
Drugs: Generic brands without insurance: $5-90 Name brands (that get comercials/advertising): $120-600 or more. With my insurance cheapo drugs are a $10 co pay and name brands are $30.

Not too sure about the tooth, but the toe certainly wouldn't have cost you a dime up here. Major surgeries are free too. And we didn't have to dump 700 billion into our banking system.

Next time someone starts bitching about "socialism being evil" point out Canada on a map. It's a "social democracy" we took the best bits of socialism & the best bits of capitalism. Yeah, out taxes are higher, but nobody is losing their home, or going bankrupt because of a trip to the hospital.

It never ceases to amaze me that the richest, most powerful nation on earth can't afford to take care of it's own. "We the people" just doesn't seem to apply in the US anymore, and it's fucking depressing watching it. You guys really need to kick the Republicans in the ass this time.

Which part of canada are you from??

Windsor, Ontario. Just across the border from Detroit. I visit the US regularly (was in Detroit's Mexican Town last night) and have a great many American friends.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot something else: We have more personal freedom up here than in the so-called "Land of the free."

You know, things like Habeas Corpus is still in effect, no Patriot Act, no "three strikes" law, no death penalty: We have "dangerous offender" status for our worst, and that means imprisonment for life. It costs less to house a prisoner for life then to execute him. ....I'm against the death penalty & I'm sure Damien Echols would be in agreement. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Memphis_3 Read this and answer this question: How the fuck could something like this happen in a free society?

Other things: If you get caught with a tiny bit of Pot, you're not going to prison. Prostitution is technically legal. And yes, you can own a gun. You just can't be an idiot with it.
We have freedom of Religion, and most importantly, freedom FROM religion. If a political candidate starts thanking God in a speech, that when the alarm bells go off.

....and I'm not saying this to mock my American friends, I'm pointing out that in the last eight years, it would seem that the US government has lost sight of what makes America great.

Arrogance aside, a country should be run by an OCD/perfectionist. (of course some will disagree)

Someone mentally incapable of doing a job less than perfect...then again...if they want to bomb a country they'd want to make sure they get every spot three times and one for good luck before 'feeling' sure that there are no survivors.

Actually I withdraw my statement.

It never ceases to amaze me how many Americans (including ones I work with) see socialism as something completely evil. So, what? Canada and many European countries are evil then? I'm afraid they're ignorant enough to think socialism and communism are the same things. So many people here are brainwashed into certain ways of thinking.

Even one of my best friends said yesterday he's afraid of Obama turning America into a European style country. I'm thinking...yea? What's wrong with that? A progressive, forward thinking society...instead of a backwoods, brainwashed, nationalistic society afraid to move into the future? Sounds great to me.

Habeas Corpus might not be here much longer in the UK as the current government are trying to replace it!!!!
With a USA style consitution!!

The problems here in the UK are down to career politicans who never actually had a real job outside politics. thus they do not have a real grasp on reality.

are you guys from the USA able to give me any examples of them over there??

Agreed. America going more Euro-style would certainly be a good thing.... people need to chill the fuck out about it. Obama might just be the best president you guys will get since Kennedy.

the government - and the people running it - lost sight of that shit a looooooooooong time ago

it's just become more apparent during the treacherous bush years...it's like all the shit that's been festering below the surface pretty much since WWII has bubbled its way up to ground level

and i agree that our country would be way better off if we moved towards a more euro/canadian style of governance...here's the list of the nations with the highest standard of living, according to the UN:

1. iceland
2. norway
3. australia
4. canada
5. ireland
6. sweden
7. switzerland
8. japan
9. netherlands
10. france
11. finland
12. united states

The problem the USA faces is that we've been relying on the government to do more and more and taking too long to find out that the government is too incompetent for anything at all.

I know it's a hard thing to understand for a lot of people, but... America is not Canada. America is not in Europe. If you're from somewhere around there it might be hard to grasp that your solutions will not work for us, but until that is accepted it'll be very hard to understand why things are fucked here.

And don't underestimate how badly Bush has screwed everything up. I literally cannot think of one thing Bush has done right. And I rarely have problems with thinking.
