Amorphis - Eclipse

Hmm, you may try listening to the whole record, not just the single. Maybe you'll like it! ;)

It would cost me 15 euros to do so.

Let's review.

Privilege of Evil was ehhh...

Karelian Isthmus was pretty good.

Tales from the Thousand Lakes was all-time heavy metal greatness.

Elegy was somehow more cool yet less good than Tales, but was a major creative kick in the ass for metal as a whole in 1996.

Tuonela was OK in some parts.

Am Universam was OK in some parts.

Far Beyond the Sun SUCKED. Just sucked in a 'I want to find where they live and beat them with bags full of Tales... CDs' kind of way.

... single (and 'b side') from the new album SUCKED.

I may be a bit... slow... but I'm not so slow as to keep throwing money at bands that have been on a consistent decline and got to the point where they were offending my ears.

Well, not to sound redundant because I've said it already, the new one is their best SINCE Elegy. So according to your logic, that would make it "better than 'OK in some parts'".

In other words, it's Amorphis stepping in the right direction, because you know, they could have gone back to the days of Am Universum.

Should you buy it? Don't know, but then I assume you didn't buy any Amorphis release since Elegy. However, if you did indeed buy Tuonela and Am Universum then your logic fails it -- but certainly listen to more samples first just so you don't think the entire album sounds like track #2.

I agree with your overall summation of the band's output, but this new album is, in my opinion, the best thing they've done since Elegy. I especially like the song "Brother Moon"...however, I will say that Eclipse doesn't have the staying power of Elegy, and certainly not of Tales. There are some good songs and a better sound on Eclipse, but it's not getting under my skin and making me want to listen to it as much as Tales or Elegy did way back when.

Pasi live was lame, but he had a unique voice.I think he had a big part in amorphis's success.I hope he'll come up with some (english)new projects.
