i think we have different ideas of rolling. an elephant cannot get back up once they stumble on their side...a prisoner of its weight. elephants only kneel down (to sleep too and probably thats how they roll in mud, too.). simple physics. whats so hard about it? it's just an interesting fact.
 
also crocodiles are suprisingly fast on land but cannot change direction quickly so running in a zig zag pattern can help to evade them if you are attacjed. Unfortunately this wont work on tigers and other big cats
