Any one Still Playing D&D

i'm thinking about getting some D&D books and starting up role playing again
just not sure which edition to play

i remember when 5th edition came out
everyone agreed 4th totally sucked and all my friends devided into 2 camps
A) people who played 5th once thought it sucked and went back to playing 3-point-5 or Pathfinder
B) people who thought 5th was better than 4th and kept playing 5th for a while

kinda want your thoughts on this @Krigloch the Furious
you like 5th edition or are you still playing Pathfinder?

the main reason i'd consider 5th edition is because it's the easiest for the people who have never played any kind of table-top-role-playing game before

i meant like
if you've got the books for pathfinder and shadowrun and rifts and mutants-and-masterminds and vampire-the-masquerade
and you're gonna end-up playing all of those different table-top-role-playing games
D&D 5th edition is the one i would have someone start with, as their first-time-ever playing any table-top role-playing game
D&D 5th edition works the best for that situation, i'd say
but if you're looking at someone who's played Rifts or Shadowrun the Star wars Role-playing game and they want to start playing a D&D-type setting for the first time
i'd use Pathfinder

MASSIVE in-person game at the end of June. Like, MASSIVE!!!
This game has been going on for well over 12 years.
I think we're 15th level. I'm fairly positive we are fighting the big bad. A few of us are for sure going to die.

We still play on Roll20/Discord fairly regularly
