Any other band good as Opeth?

Opeth is absolutely great, and we all agree about that. Other great bands IMO are:
Ulver, Arcturus and Psychotic Waltz.
All are great, one is not better than the other, but thé favourite band differs from time to time...

im still a bit hung up on why people are just naming bands they like, rather than bands which are actually just as good or better than Opeth. i guess theres much to be said for literacy.

ironically...the original poster is the only one ive seen with 2 bands mentioned that are actually AS good as Opeth. Sabbath and Floyd. That being said...everyone else get your heads out of your asses...he asked for bands AS GOOD as opeth, not ones your pea brains think sound "similair" to opeth.

Whats good or bad is a personal judgement and will differ from person to person.

Hi everybody! I would like to know other bands like opeth. I know that they have a unique sound, but I am sure that there should be other bands as good as they are.

I think hes looking for bands with similar sound/style as Opeth and dont want tips of all kinds of bands that some of us think is good.

I could be wrong though cause hes not that clear about what he really means. Asking for "other bands like Opeth" and dont want something that sounds similar? Thats just strange imo. Then why doesnt he just ask for what other ppl like and think is good music?

Psychotic Waltz is pretty technical, progressive metal with the singer of Dead Soul Tribe (Devon Graves a.k.a. Buddy Lackey). PW has split up a long time ago, so I'm very sad about never seeing them live. They had a guitarist in a wheelchair

Can't think of any metal bands with the exception of Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden who put an extended body of work comparable to Opeth.

For different genres though, and in terms of scope, ambition, influence, songwriting skill, and just sheer goodness, I would rank Radiohead and Sonic Youth right up there with the Opeths and Pink Floyds of the world.

I know not everyone here likes them, but Mastodon can be flat out fantastic. Sadly, their albums are not as consistent, some songs feeling lacklustre in comparison to others, but when they are good they are VERY good. Heres hoping the next cd will fully realise what they've only begun to show they can do.

Mastodon are pretty damn cool, yeah. Although I think Opeth is way better than Pink Floyd...but Mozart's stuff is better than anything ever written by Opeth...I say better, not more kickass. Mozart is fucking amazing GOOD music.

Ha! Cool beans. Ive got a Mastodon shirt (cover of Leviathan - almost surprises me how many compliments ive had when wearing it), but never seen a hoodie round these parts.

Still waiting for my second 'don shirt (Remission cover). Its ok, its only been, what, 5 weeks? Bah, im not annoyed...not at all...punching holes in walls just makes me feel good...
