Any suggestions for a great digital camera that wont break my bank?

Auto settings and flash wash out faces with nearly every camera. I have to turn my flash down too.

The auto setting on my Sony won't do that. Hell, I sent my mother out to a Halloween party with it the other night and just told her, "keep it on this setting (auto) and push this button." And the pictures she took turned out good! I was surprised.

edit: There's a couple of those I need to post

Nah, it's a Canon thing, though. Bright-ass flashes. Not necessarily a bad thing, but you have to adjust settings when it needs to be dimmer.

hahaha
seriously, depends on what you're going to use it for, Ken. We've been using a Canon for the past few years to take basic pics of our son, parties, antics, EBAY, shit like that. No landscape silliness or artsy photos for us so it's done the job. If you're into that sort of thing, I've read that one should look into the latest crop of SLR cameras that run around the high hundreds. Maybe even $600.
The thing with cameras is the same with all the other gadgetry bullshit: as soon as you buy it, they come out with something much more "superior". My mom just got a 6 megapixel camera the other day that cost LESS than the 3.2 megapixel camera I bought three years ago. Beware.

EX-FUCKING-ACTLY.

Yeah, Im not looking to spend anymore than 2 bills. Even that is too much because I wont use it that much or for anything other than taking pics of drunken antics.

just get anyhting from Nikon or Canon in the price range you are llooking for ... the differences between models are trivial bells and whistles at best.

Kodak EasyShare DX6490

Any opinions? I know some bint selling one for $200 w/ SD card (w/etf that is) and charger.

i have a kodak easyshare and they are great ... but the one you are beign offered is a big fucker ... might be a bitch to take with you.
