Opeth use that damn E chord over and over all the time, Annoying to me, Is it for anyone else?

It doesn't bother me, but I have noticed. Ghost Reveries has a lot of songs that at least start in the key of D.... (ghost of perdition, baying of the hounds, beneath the mire, harlequin forest, grand conjuration, isolation years......)

In metal songs you'll usually get the key of the song being what the guitars are tuned to. In Opeth's case a lot of the time it's concert pitch, so you get the classic Em presenting itself a lot. No big issue. With my new 7-string, my big chord is a Bbm and Ebm.

Opeth tend to change key during their songs since they are quite long and
they use alot of different chords. But you're right the E chord keeps coming
back.

But I can't really say it sounds repetitive, or anything. When one make songs
with a couple of chords, you are bound to end up using one of the E-chords
(major, minor, maj7, 7, add9, sus, etc). But not always ofcuze!

So... To answer your question, no, it doesn't bother me at all! :Spin:

Yes i've noticed it but i don't care - it's how it's used that matters.. Mikael somehow manages to make it sound different enough each time. Also, it's going to be inevitable after recording 8 albums that you'll use the same chords and rhythms more than once..
