I heard the MP3 of "Vanadis" on the Napalm Records website - sounds very much like a continuation of Magni Blandinn...perhaps even more accessible? Either way, I like the 2 minutes that I heard.

Also, I've read that Vakyas has collaborated with Boltthorn from Vindsval...any thoughts on Vindsval?

Well, he's purchased a more expensive synthesizer and bettered his vocal skills a bit it seems... But basically this sounds just like Magni Blandinn...

A must-buy, either way.

Anyone have an idea when it's coming out btw?

Also, I can't find the website for his Skaldic Arts record label - anyone have the URL? (I couldn't even find it using Google).

i've never heard of them, but trust me, they did a good job on the new falkenbach. instrumentally, this is lightyears ahead of the old albums, while the old charm is being preserved (IMHO of course). it definitely IS a bit more accessible, but that's mainly due to the better production and those majestic acoustic guitars - it's not that he completely changed the song structures or went pop or something like that :D. the acoustic stuff is exactly what i missed on magni blandinn (my fave falkenbach song ever being laeknishendr, which has acoustic guitars in abundance...)
and well, getting a real drummer didn't hurt either :D

Pfft, why was I even concerned this might be disappointing? Perhaps because so much else of 2003 was?

Well, first listen done and my Top 10 list is calling. Talk about instant gratification. Yes, more accessible than the previous two but stunning nonetheless.

EDIT: Just read Mark Gromen's review for this album on BW&BK. He gave it a 7.5/10 and states that he dropped a point from the overall rating because some of the lyrics are not in English.

didn't feel like making a new thread about Falkenbach. ANyone else hear about the Falkenbach tribute CD? I don't know who's on it, but It would have been cool to have Nasheim on it, but I think it's too late. Erik and Mike, did y'all see this?:

As some of you already know, I'm currently busy with a TRIbute to Falkenbach as they are one of my most favorite band since many years. Because Falkenbach celebrated this year it's 15th year anniversary, I really wanted to contact bands to ask them to send me their covers of Falkenbach and release a very limited TRIbute album for the fans.

Because of personal matters I had a long delay with the TRIbute and I want to ask all bands that didn't send in their cover-versions, and bands that want to start with recording, will have more time to send in their version til latest 20 december. Any song is free to send, but make sure it's recorded on an AUDIO-CD only.

I am sorry for this delay for the people who are waiting for this release. Sometimes little things seem to last longer as we thought. Thanks to all bands that contacted me and send their audio-cd already a while ago, I'm sorry for the long wait, and I'm sorry for not answering all those mails.

In other news, Falkenbach is writing new material for the next album!

Who is that that you're quoting?

That's great anyway, but at the same time I'm surprised there are enough people who even know Falkenbach in order to make a tribute CD. Three albums in 15 years...

I believe it is the webmaster of the Skaldic Art and Falkenbach sites.

I should probably give it another chance.

Dude, trade it to me. I'm in school now, but talk to me on AIM. I'm sending you shit soon, maybe we can work something out. (I've wanted this album).

Ditto. And I've already given it chances :|
The first song is kind of good but the others are very anonymous, they simply stroll by unnoticed in all their epicness and grandeur

After many listens, i am actually in agreement. The album is good, but when I'm done with it, I can't remember anything.

But the debut is amazing and completely memorable.

I called it back when I reviewed it....

[font=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]My only concern, however, is the lack of variation between one song to the next. The album tends to becomes slightly bland – in other words, you can almost throw on any track at random and get a feel for what the entire album is all about. Again, this is not necessarily a bad trait since each song is a masterpiece in its own right, but that lack of variety might hinder the shelf-life of the album when compared to FALKENBACH’s first two releases. In retrospect, the debut album offers so much depth that even its comparatively lackluster production adds to the sincerity and multiple sound textures – right down to the fret buzz on the acoustic guitars.

Still made top 10 though. An above average Falkenbach album is still miles better than most others.
