@Mystique and dawnghost and others:

If they like the music, then who gives a fuck right?

Don't be like "OMG they listen to CoB and so do I this can't be!! They're gay and I'm tr00! I can't let them taint metal!" because the fact is we were all young, we all listened to gay music, and if you say you didn't you're a faggot and a liar.

Metal to me, is a lifestyle in addition to a genre. For me, being metal just means: you have an attraction only to that music genre (it's not that other music sucks, it just doesn't appeal to you), that you're a strong independant person and that you forge your own tastes, not follow everyone else's. People can like metal without living the lifestyle, so get over it and grow up.

Does it really bother you that much that a 14 year old who likes MCR listens to Bodom too? If it does, get a life now.

yeah...but that's why i'm saying it's ironic. cuz even though all these music scenes like punk rock and metal started out with kids who didn't give two shits about conformity, it has turned into just the opposite now days. I mean, sure, there are of course "true" metalheads and punk rockers still around, but I think about 50% of the kids who listen to metal now days do it for the sake of being "cool" because they think its cool to be a rebel and to not fit in.

Of course they can. I listen to metal and I don't live the lifestyle, whatever that may mean to you. I think true fans of metal listen to it for the music, not for the sake of "being cool."

I guess you could consider me as a hardcore fan... I mean... they're my favorite band... I guess you'd have to define the term "hardcore".

Are YOU a Hardcore CoB fan?

I am a dedicated fan, been one since 2003. They are my fav band. I go to all the concerts they play near me and I've gotten the pleasure of getting backstage and hanging out with the CoB guys (minus Alexi and Janne) for one night. I have a few bands shirts of them (and I never buy band tees) and I even have the CoB and Hate Me! singles.

But I don't consider myself 'hardcore'.

There's a word for that: POSERS! MEtal and punk has gotten so popular, everyone's into it so they have to be into it too to fit in.

Everyone's looking into the word "hardcore" too much. Just pretend it's not there or replace it with a word like "huge." Yes, i am Alexi's #1 fangirl/fan!!! No one can ever take that spot except for me. You may be Cob's number one fan but not alexi's number one fan!

I don't think that smeone's going to fight for this "Platz an der Sonne"# 1... Cuz everyone understands pretty well that it's a great responsibility... :-D

Actually, this whole "true" thing is as gay as Manowar. It's funny and all, but whoever gives a damn is just an idiot. That's not what I'm talking about, it's not about listening to gay music, as I still dig some pretty fucking gay ass music like Cyndi Lauper for example. I mean, I actually have "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" in my iPod, sometimes it plays just before Anaal Nathrakh kicks in.

Nah, it's about the "using metal to fit in" that I'm talking about. In the beginning, when I discovered Black Sabbath, yeah, I admit that I felt that headbangers were a group of strong, independent individuals who forged their own tastes, like you said. Obviously that is still true in many cases, but lately it has been changing: there are some bands like Avenged Sevenfold and new metal in general that are bringing a whole wave of angst-filled teens to the scene.

So it's not about strong will or musical taste, but of an attitude people try to mimic, because they see it in others, this so-called independence, free-thinking, they want to stand out, not fit in, but they do that by following a pattern, a group. As someone said, rebellion somehows hints of intelligence, even though that's not always true.

So answering your question with sincerity: I listen to metal and also hard rock, blues, funk, jazz, ska, surf music and even some californian punk. I love Nile and The Ventures. I have Andrew WK, George Clinton and freaking Jaco Pastorius in my iPod.

So no, I don't want anyone to be a tr00 metalhead. You can even listen to emo if you behave like a decent human being (like that's possible, but anyway). What made me post here is that people behave like freaking idiots, that's all. I've been a teen and I never behaved like a sheep, trying to fit in by being different. Trends are just simply dumb.

And yeah, metal is becoming trendy. And nah, I'm not a hardcore Bodom fan, even though I was listening to Hatebreeder at ear-splitting volume when I arrived at work today.

I think most people these days looks past the fact that metal is a type of music not a lifestyle. Worship the music more than you worship the musician.

i have done COB people drawings. my myspace involves COB in name and background. my bedroom walls are covered in COB pictures. i write stories involving COB.
