I'm so angry I am calm. Seriously. I want to yell. I want to email harshly. I want to do something about this, because I can't stand it any more.

Iron Maiden has just about as much to do with why I love metal as the Final Fantasy series has much to do about why I love console RPGs. I mean, god damn.

I've been wanting to see Iron Maiden since I was old enough to be able to go to shows on my own. It hasn't been a long time by comparison, because I'm not an old person. But what the fuck gives here? Why come to the United States and Canada and only play for the same fucking cities and regions every fucking time? Texas has dates? Plenty. The western states? Covered. Northern Midwest? Check. Canada? Oh yeah. New England? We're coming back.

Southeast? Nah, fuck that place man. Never going back there. Dream Theater has. Metallica has. Megadeth has and still does. Ozzfest comes to the south. Many "big" tours come to the south...at least to Florida, Atlanta, or Tennessee. I don't get it. What will it take? They went on tour here, left, and then came back and "did shows at places they didn't hit last time" and still completely ignored anywhere feasable for me to go. Why must it take not only the price of an expensive ticket but also a plane ticket I can't afford to see arguably my favorite metal band? There are sooooo many metal bands I love, but it seems Maiden will always elude me. It's not fair. I hate it. Anyone agree? Anyone at all?

People who live in New York, California, Chicago, Dallas, etc.: this topic is not for you.

Unbelievably, and crushingly sad/angry/disappointed in Mississippi right now.

It does suck.

Money + older guys = Not worth the money and too draining to do a bus tour all over the US IMO.

Look on the bright side, road trips are fun for events that you'll really enjoy.

I'm with you. It's crushing when things like this happen.I envy those who can say "I've seen them enough,I'll pass on this tour".Must be nice to say things like that.Maiden is one of the bands I'd like to say I've seen before I die or Bruce dies.It looks like that just isn't going to happen..

The Final Frontier? Apparently, the south is the final frontier to this band! I really was hoping for at least an Atlanta date this go around. I simply can't believe that they played in the town I currently live in, Johnson City, Tennessee, back in 88'! That still blows my mind! :erk:

I agree with whomever said the bunch of old men have gotten use to their plush jet! With that said, Atlanta has one of the largest airports...I just don't get it!

I'm surprised that anyone may believe that this somehow is the choice of the 5 guys in the band. I would be even more surprised if any one, or all of them had anything to do with where they play.

No, I know it's not them. And they've played the South in the past. It's whoever it is that does plan their tour itinerary that I take issue with. The person or group who doesn't see the merit in at least an Atlanta date. It's a big city, with a very nice airport, and a market of metal fans who would be willing to drive maybe 100-200 miles to the show, but don't want to go on a 13-14 hour road trip that they can't afford anyway.

It's not like the show in the South wouldn't be successful, right? It would sell out no matter the price. Fuck. I just want to know if there's a reasonable rationale for this decision, year in and year out? My guess is their reasoning would still piss me off.

Honestly I think they'd sell out no matter where they played. They could sell out a show in Tupelo, Mississippi. But maybe their managers just don't want them somewhere like that. I don't know. I just don't know. I'd be elated for a show in Memphis, though, man. That's only 3.5 hours from me. That'd be like a gift basket. Isn't Memphis big enough? God damn, guys. It's like the birthplace of the music that gave birth to the music that gave birth the the music that gave birth to you guys. Oh well.

So I take it you don't want me to run down in detail all of the times I have seen IRON MAIDEN live then, dating back to 1985????????

oh, please do tell

and OP, the closest show is only 3 hrs away?!? Dude, make it a road trip, that's not that far. Unless, of course you don't have a car, in which case go with a friend and help with gas. A 3 hr drive shouldn't be a problem. Trust me, it will be worth it

Don't sweat it, because they will probably play a lack-luster playlist anyway. I’ve seen Maiden a couple of times, once on 1987-03-13 and once again around 2005. The 2005 show sucked. You heard right... sucked. The playlist was the problem. Bruce D. is notorious for playing self indulgent songs that nobody cares about. If people had access to poster board and markers during the 2005 show I went to, Bruce would have had the opportunity to rip up a couple hundred signs that read "PLAY CLASSICS".

For example, here's a typical playlist from 2006:

01. Different World
02. These Colors Don't Run
03. Brighter Than a Thousand Suns
04. Pilgrim
05. Longest Day
06. Out of the Shadows
07. Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg
08. For the Greater Good of God
09. Lord of Light
10. Legacy
11. Fear of the Dark
12. Iron Maiden
---------------------
13. 2 Minutes to Midnight
14. The Evil that Men Do
15. Hallowed Be Thy Name

Here are some comments you might hear concerning an Iron Maiden playlist:
- "Holy shit is this fucking LAME. Worst set list ever. I pity you people who paid for tickets..."
- "this set sucks, no wrathchild????"
- "That is probably the single most disappointing things I've ever seen... and I like the new album."
- "I'm not seeing Run To The Hills or Number of the Beast for that matter so automatically the set is shit"

On the contrary here was the setlist in 1987, (which I much prefer, even to this day)

1. Caught Somewhere In Time
2. 2 Minutes to Midnight
3. Children Of The Damned
4. Stranger In A Strange Land
5. Wasted Years
6. Rime Of The Ancient Mariner
7. Heaven Can Wait
8. Phantom Of The Opera
9. Hallowed Be Thy Name
10. Iron Maiden
11. The Number of the Beast
12. Run to the Hills
13. Running Free

I stopped bitching about where bands play a long time ago.
Just the same, as a fan, it is still disheartening to see a tour you wish to see and realize it is not going to happen, for the fifth time.

I know there will be bands that I have always wanted to see, that I will likely not....happens.
I know too, there will be occasional surprises as to who I get to see and who makes that local stop...priceless moments.

I have a learned appreciation for the artists that avail themselves locally and make every effort to attend those shows....
....sometimes supporting a show I am not all that high on just because they made the effort.
....sometimes missing shows I want to see due to....

All in all, there are things that are out of our control, that applies across the board.
But when it realy comes down to it...
It's not about what you are missing, but what you don't.

If nobody in the area wants to promote and host the show, the band won't play. It's not the band's or the managements fault.
I live in WI, but will GLADLY travel to Ill-annoy for this if I could swing it.
First maiden show was in 1982, the last was the first reunion w/Bruce, was that 199 or 2000?

I'm surprised that anyone may believe that this somehow is the choice of the 5 guys in the band. I would be even more surprised if any one, or all of them had anything to do with where they play.

Yep, you're right.

In the case of Atlanta, I suspect the reason why the tour is not coming here is that all of the venues here suitable for a show like this are controlled by LiveNation, and Iron Maiden's undoubtedly hefty guarantee has them scared.

William, if you're that close to a Texas date, go! I'll envy you the convenience.
