ASHES OF ARES - Studio Teaser 2013

Awesome.:kickass: I can't wait for this. He says the album will be out in early September...hopefully it will be out in time for PP!

I can't find any reviews of thier live show. Anyone know if they do any Iced Earth or Nevermore or just their original AoA stuff?

I also can't find anything about who is actually in the band aside from Vidales/Barlow/Williams. Anyone know who the other guitarist and bassist are?

Edit: Nevermind on the setlist question. Just found one on setlist.fm and it's all original AoA material. The previews I've heard sound solid, sounds like the album will be great!

There were youtube videos of some of the songs, but they got pulled. The songs sounded great, but the fans lacked a certain energy that comes from knowing the songs....
I hope they drop the album in time for me to MELT it into my memory before the show. I enjoy a good "taste of things to come" that bands tend to do on the PP stage (last year Sinbreed, Amaranthe shared upcoming CD songs)
But a whole CD's worth being never heard before? Would be hard to get into.

If I understand correctly, Vidales played pretty much all guitars and bass on the album... but unless they're planning on doing it Virgin Steele style, it seems like they're going to need at least one more member for live shows.

The band is the three of them, with two touring musicians who are not considered part of the band. They will not be doing any Nevermore or Iced Earth material. Matt did tell me in the interview we did for the fest, that their goal has been to have the disc ready for sale at the fest. He also mentioned the whole band is very psyched for ProgPower, as they feel like it's their introduction to the U.S. audience.

Then that should make for a very awesome show. When the band is pumped it frequently makes for a great result. Reference: Mustache.

When Matt was at Morrisound with us he played a few clips; definitely awesome material. I am really looking forward to the final product. I also like how Van plays a bit more of a straight forward, groove-like style on this project.

Their logo is one of the best I have seen.

Regarding the album title and the cover artwork, which was designed by drummer Van Williams, Van states: "We discussed a few ideas, but once we had developed the band logo, it felt right to use it as the introduction to the band along with the name as the focal point for our first album. The artwork, for me, reflects where each of us has been and how we are coming together from our pasts in this new endeavour."

ASHES OF ARES is:

Matthew Barlow - Vocals
Freddie Vidales - Guitar/Bass
Van Williams - Drums
Gio Geraca - Guitar (session/touring member only)
Dean Sternberg - Bass (session/touring member only)

ASHES OF ARES is a band which represents the culmination of experiences, trials and tribulations of its founding members. Within months of their departures from the iconic metal bands ICED EARTH and NEVERMORE, the trio came together with a renewed drive to create a sound which is a true collaboration of their personal influences, ideas and visions. Armed with the knowledge acquired through years of the writing, touring and recording cycle, and with the support of an army of loyal fans across the globe, ASHES OF ARES is poised to carve out a new legacy and stand alongside those who have helped pave the way.

In an October 2012 interview with Rocket Queen Promotion, Barlow stated about ASHES OF ARES' musical direction: "Well, most folks know what to expect from me, from my work with ICED EARTH and PYRAMAZE. So you take some of that and mix it with Van's brand of cadence and Freddie's riffage… blam-o….it's ASHES OF ARES!!! It's just straight-up heavy metal!"

Regarding the band's future plans, Barlow said: "The reason we are all doing this is for the love of music. We are metal guys and this is what we do. ASHES OF ARES live shows will be limited, but there will be live shows for fans, friends, and family to come to and enjoy with us. We really just want to create music that we enjoy and have that translate to our listeners."

ASHES OF ARES made its live debut this on May 17 at the Rock Hard Festival at Amphitheater in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. Fan-filmed video footage of the performance can be seen below.

I have to admit, I'm a bit disappointed about the release date - I was hoping nto have more time to really learn the material to sing along - the choruses sound amazing.

But thanks for posting the studio update. One thing's for sure - the snippets in the video kickass and I know the album is going to rock our metal socks off.

Can't wait for the performance!
