Does anyone else have certain auras/atmospheres that certain albums/artists can create? For me, Perdition City has a very noir/urban sound to it, while Isis' last two albums have had an oceanic feel to them

Falkenbach reminds me of either sailing on the ocean with some huge dirty hairy Vikings or by sitting on a grassy noll watching the wind blow the leaves in the trees.

Reverend Bizarre reminds me of nighttime in some old English town, with a graveyard nearby, and a pub around the corner full of guys drinking.

blut aus nord has a very "unearthly" feel to it. and ofcourse bands like turisas, thyrfing, einherjer, etc all have a epic iron age battle field vibe

Xasthur does give that feeling of empyness, of a void, right in your gut. Similarly with Elysian Blaze, but to a different degree - more like desolation on the edge of sanity.

And I love the Perdition City atmosphere. One of the most vivid I've heard.

Atmosphere=Burzum.
Especially the keyboard-only albums, like Daudi Baldrs.
Varg Vikernes says that if You listen to his music
on a dark, lonely night, before going to sleep, it
creates magic.
Truly it is.

Mithras' Worlds Beyond the Veil has creates a pretty strong atmosphere, sort of otherworldly.... how very apt.

Fucking AWESOME atmosphere in that album. People giving it shit about the "raw-ish" production, Morbid Angel ripoffs (YES THEY ARE THERE but it's not even the same in execution most of the time!), etc. need to FUCK OFF and listen to Lords And Masters at FULL volume (especially during the ridiculously fucking great echo'd solo guitar section, gives off an UNBELIEVABLE vibe. Psyrens, too. I always get chills listening to that CD!

Atmosphere is ultra-important to me. If a CD gives off the atmosphere portrayed by the aesthetic of the cover art/insert/booklet art, then they have succeeded more than a lot of bands who just play good music. I guess this is probably why I hold such generic brutal death bands in high esteem; despite the less than interesting imagery (while some have awesome art and stuff but still), I can't help but feel like they've accomplished something cool when I look at art and get the same vibe as the lyrics or art would have me imagine.

Great topic! I'll think up some examples later on, and even try to force myself to attach an atmosphere to albums I didn't previously think of having much in particular! Yay!
