Atmospheres music creates

Excellent thread -

Immortal - At the Heart of Winter (evokes, unsurprisingly, mental images of warriors trapsing across icy, windswept climes)

Skyclad - Prince of the Poverty Line (always reminds me of the denizens of Londo Below from Neverwhere - Neil Gaiman)

Slayer - South of Heaven (depends on the song, but either a German soldier in ww2 with a thousand mile stare, and zombies / hell obviously)

I like the atmosphere that Meshuggah - Spasm creates. Don't really know how to describe it, though.
Nerves... Like tighted strings. And you all are pierced with them. Thats what i feel while listening to it. And also it brings a feeling of awaiting of something, but you dont know what it is.

Falkenbach - Vanadis - makes me feel like I am on the ride with those warriors
Falkenbach - ...Towards the Hall of Bronzen Shields - makes me feel like I am stood atop a windswept hill in Scandinavia

Vratyas is a living genius

When i listen to Bathory's Hammerheart i take a "spiritual" trip to the nordic lands. It's so nice.
Also, these songs create a great atmosphere for me:
Drudkh - When The Flame Turns To Ashes
Emperor - I Am The Black Wizards
In The Woods - Heart Of The Ages
Negura Bunget - II
Nokturnal Mortum - Perun's Celestial Silver
Summoning - Dagor Bragollach
Windir - Svartesmeden og Lundamyrstrollet
Excellent thread indeed.

I think Deathspell Omega give off (particularly on SMRC and Kenose) a very vivid representation of macabre evil...

I just finished listening to SMRC and I was thinking of this thread as it played, definitely atmospheric, it seems to give off a religious vibe imo.

Heh! IRONY!

I think Kenose pales in comparison, actually, but it IS technically an EP so we'll wait to see what their new CD sounds like...

I always mention this but the vocalist (Mikko) is in a noise act called Grunt and I've talked to him online before! Heh...

Should I bother getting Kenose? Normally, I'm not fussed about EPs. Are these Grunt fellows any good?

Another strong atmosphere come from Graveland's Thousand Swords(epic battle, imminent victory)

Also imminent death + reflection.

I'm not going to do a list, as it'd be pretty much identical to my best of.

Kenose is good but not as thematically (nor really musically) strong has SMRC. Check it out and possibly buy it but don't expect another SMRC...yet!

Grunt is just Mikko, but I really like his work. It's noise of course (with some vocals), so I dunno if you'd "like" it unless you've been exposed to any noise before.

Try that.

I'll probably download it some time and then decide if it's worth my money.

I'm not to keen on Noise generally, but that wasn't bad.

Cool! I haven't actually heard the CD(s) that came off of (Seer Of Decay 2xCD), but it was pretty good yeah. I highly suggest Terror & Degeneration by him; curiously it has a really awesome atmosphere of decrepit urban society, etc.

Why not recommend the poor fellow Mikko's metal outings, Clandestine Blaze and Stabat Mater.

Speaking of which, has anyone heard the Stabat Mater/AM 12" split yet? I was thinking of chasing up a copy, if only for resale value :loco:. Those Paniac series go for a mint a mere year after release.
