for example...the word "squash" in the compression context. it's like yeah, I can visualize it, but what would the parameters of a compressor need to be so audio is squashed.

Squashing something means taking all the peaks out of it. So the setting are depend on the audio source. A limiter will squash anything.

About the limiter, that could be my ass talking.
