Yeah, the big one obviously works much better. Have you tried putting the whole pic as your avatar? (after shrinking, obviously). Without cropping it at all?

Hmm, well as far as I know, I'm the only one who made it blue instead of golden for a DM website I put together a couple of years ago (it shows the age too ). And it is very easy to pu a background in a transparent pic.
