Any one know any bands whose music and lyrics contain a heavy focus on Greek or Roman mythology (preferably with the same devotion Nile have towards Egyptian mythology)?

Kronos - death metal from France
Symphony X - you probably already know of them, great symphonic metal
Ex Deo - Kataklysm side project
The Gates Of Slumber - some of their stuff, great band anyway

You can search for more by searching for lyrical themes on metal-archives.

Thanks man. I particularly like the sound of Kronos. I've heard a lot of people here talking about Symphony X but I never really listened to them. I might pay more attention to them now though.

If you're open to all genres, I would suggest Virgin Steele. They have two albums (The House of Atreus Acts I and II) completely based on the story of the Atreidae from Greek mythology.

And here are some of their songs from other albums that borrow from Greek or Roman mythology/history:

Also, if you can find their song "A Token of My Hatred" from the album The House of Atreus: Act II anywhere online (I couldn't find it on youtube) check it out; it's mad epic.

They get a lot of shit mostly for their past 2 albums, which have been more aggressive than usual, but I still enjoy them. Best place to start with "V," their best definitely and the lyrics are about Atlantis.

On the subject of Greek bands, I think Zemial and Septic Flesh sometimes have mythologically focused lyrics.

Be'Lakor

I highly recommend this band.

I was planning to get into them anyway but I appreciate the thought. They're actually Greek, aren't they?

Yup. Their old albums are not so much into that, but they have a 'greek' sound. About lyric concept album, AEALO is their most myth-inspired work to date. Theogonia sounds really epic and mythological too.
