Bass in Metal

lol, comparing groove metal bassists?! who the fuck cares about bands who can barely play their instruments

groove metal = guys who want to play thrash but cant
~gR~

That is retarded. Dimebag could definitely play his instrument.

I guess the guys on the last Exodus album can't play thrash then, eh?

That was my original point.

Sort of. You have to define 'similar' bassists. I mean, are you talking groove metal bassists, or are you talking thrash bassists?

Digiorgio is not similar to Brown

I'm biased because Rex Brown is one of my favorite bassists, so I automatically think he's a monster.

Kind of like how I think Paul Bostaph is better than Dave Lombardo.

dime could solo, but wrote terrible riffs. ive said it many times. dimebag, and pantera (along with anthrax), ruined metal by starting nu metal. but there are many arguments on about pantera on here. and i believe the last time we had one, deron got mad at me and locked the thread. so you can just dig up the old threads if you want read about my opinion on glamtera.

i havnt heard the latest exodus album. but exodus has proven their thrash abilities.

Actually, I compared him to a jazz bassist. It was kind of unfair, but I like snapping people into reality.

I enjoy a bit of Pantera, though, and I think Rex Brown does well for them.

Of course Digorgio isn't similar, he plays death metal, which is IMMENSELY more technical.

I think Lamb of God's bassist is better. :Smug:

Actually, it should be in the recommendations forum, since he is after all asking for recomendations; in this case, metal with prominent or complex bass. That is actually the first thing I thought when I saw this thread, but I decided not to say anything.

Good point

Just tell me why every time Pan-fucking-tera is brought up, somebody has to claim ONE of the band members was a god at their instrument?

How come all of a sudden after all the years they've been around they are only now a lineup of all start amazing musicians? Dimebag is A AMAZING GUITAR MAN, Vinnie Paul is one of the best DRUMS EVAR double kickerz TOO, Phil IS TEH GOOD VOCALS and now we have the fucking BASSIST being defended?

How long does the torture of this mediocre redneck band have to continue?

Oh and for recommendations, check out Blood Red Throne's Altered Genesis. Erlend uses nearly every bass playing technique in the book, brilliant stuff. Especially the tapping and arpeggios.

+1 for Cryptopsy, Stargazer, Death, Atheist, Cynic etc...
