Its as dorky as any other trend. Including your own, although il probably classify it wrong so i wont even bother.

Because if you can outright deny thats not a consistency in the black metal genre, id probably agree with you its not a trend at all. But it does.
It has all the characteristics of a trend, the clothes/apperance and the same insights/attitude that other people within the trend have. Sure its cheesy though.
It just seems to me your pissin an moanin at people to try and show them 'the light' or something

the facts are that i dont talk about music like im giving a weather report

If you know anything about the music, you'll know it's not a weather report but an accurate description of what the music sounds like. Anyone into this style of music knows EXACTLY what I am describing.

I might sound stupid to you, but really what you should do is do some investigation of your own in order to understand why someone might explain the music this way.

Based on the reaction to what I wrote, is it then dorky of Immortal to name a plethora of songs in relation to environmental states? eg winterstorms, blizzards and the like. Based on this, its probably just as dorky for Opeth to have done so much in the early days in relation to dark forests both musically and photographically. Or perhaps even Agalloch for that matter.

Many albums throughout Metal depict wilderness in some shape way or form, and express it even more through their lyrics and music itself.

It's not about trying to sound elite, cool, trendy or anything like that at all. I simply expressed something in a manner that the music does too.

Get off your high horses. Those of you who complain about my comment are the ones trying to be trendy, you have little individuality or appreciation for arts and your comments prove it. If you're such metalheads and know-it-all's, the comment shouldn't have even caused a blink. YOU SHOULD KNOW that metal in its entirety is NOT about fashion and acceptability. It is about individuality and REAL expression.

Amazing: a good discussion was just starting and some of you just HAVE to come in and hijack things dont you? Back in the days when I didnt know something or understand something, I would ask questions, no matter how stupid I sounded. This is how music and knowledge are shared. Why do you people persist in making asses of yourselves and turning every conversation into shit? I feel like I'm in a forum filled with 10 year old brats. Your idiocy and lack of intelligence is continously frustrating!

Black metal does actually have a certain trend and fashion that the majority of the bands set as their image. What i was saying was that no trend is better than the other, and if you have no interest in metal or Opeth and just wanna bitch about how your better than everyone else without giving any thought out opinion...then whats the point in even stating it anyway.

Are you implying that this is what *I* have said/done, or someone else?

I agree with you in that if bitching about nothing then bugger off.

Black Metal has it's "ways". I wouldnt call it a trend or fashion because at the core its very against that. If you dont know this then read up on it (not meant harshly, please understand that). Consider also that fashion at its core is a temporary state, its not constant. Thus Black Metal has no fashion because its been relatively constant since its beginnings. If anything its more refined now in various aspects.

Black Metal is restricted in some ways, of how it exists. It has finite philosophical visions and these are quite clearly depicted in how its expressed musically, visually and so on. Some might dislike this, but I like this aspect of Black Metal. It's this aspect which drew me to it. If I want a specific feeling or something, I know which kind of music I want to turn to.

Black Metal has its purpose, and I think it does it well. At the end of the day, I'll always defend it, but thats not to say there isnt some garbage in it either. The comments of bring "tr00" etc come from people who actually know nothing about it, and dont actually listen to the music. They go off what they hear from other people who dont listen to it and it gets further distorted.

Its not a straightforward kind of music in any way. Its complex and downright stubborn. But this is what find is so great about it beause most other kinds of music change to follow trends and popularity stakes. Black Metal doesnt.

I know I sound all serious about it, but music has never been, nor ever will be some kind of "passing fancy" or something I take half-heartedly. I'm obsessed with music and always will be.

I just love my music, thats all...

As far as Spectacular Views goes, I think she's probably just new to (extreme) metal.

well for one, it's amusing how absurdly riled up people get around here

You know, thinking about it... I think the reason for that (myself included) is that 99.9% of people into metal are REALLY into it. They're totally passionate about it, and thats probably why there's so much bickering, because everyone's totally nuts about whatever kind of metal they like.

It could be Burzum, could be Opeth, could be Lacuna Coil or My Dying Bride or Carcass... whatever takes your fancy, but you'll be totally nuts about it for sure.

Its like Rob Zombie said in the metal documentary: "I dont know the guy who says 'oh I was into Slayer... one summer'. I only the know the guy who has Slayer carved on his chest". Pretty true words!

Actually - it poses a question.

Who's mildly into Metal? And why?

And who's crazy about it, and why?
