Morbid Angel - Altars of Madness
Entombed - Left Hand Path

Autopsy - Severed Survival
Death - Scream Bloody Gore
Obituary - Slowly we Rot
Possessed - Seven Churches
Cannibal Corpse - The Bleeding
Deicide - Legion
Napalm Death - Harmony Corruption
ehh... I wouldn't call Harmony Corruption a "death metal" album. Or the Carcass one for that matter. They're both of a little British genre called "grindcore".

Harmony Corruption is the only napalm death that is death metal sounding to me. I'm not sure if it's because where it was recorded(morrisound). The band on this album reminds me off massacre, benediction, and the first malevolent creation. The band line up also has two new guitarists that don't seem(grind) influenced, and barney greenway too who sounds like a death metal vocalist.

I did not have a problem until he said Soulside Journey is 'decidedly average'. Soulside Journey is one of my favorite death metal albums easily.

Some crappy american death metal(not saying all is crappy) is not even 5% as good. end

Here are my favorites.

Necrophagist: Onset of Putrefaction and Epitaph
Anata: Under a Stone With No Inscription and The Conductor's Departure
Augury: Concealed
Pavor: Furioso
Psycroptic: Symbols of Failure

Spawn of Possession: Cabinet
Behemoth: Demigod
Suffocation: Pierced From Within
Gojira: From Mars to Sirius

It's a favorite of mine as well, but views differ. You can't force your opinions on others and expect them to be taken for granted.

I'm not forcing an opinion anywhere or saying he has to get a boner when listening to it. He called one of my favorite albums 'decidedly average' and I called some bands he listed 'average'. Why are we discussing this ?

Y'aiight.

Okay, let me explain my reasoning, then.

Celtic Frost - was highly influential to death metal (as well as thrash, etc.)
Opeth - progressive, yes, but still death metal.
Satyricon - Musically are more similar to death metal as of late.
Emperor - IX Equilibrium saw the band exhibiting a stronger death metal influence.
Children of Bodom - has more of a connection to melo-death than power metal, "Follow the Reaper" was the only one that showed obvious power influence. The others skirted the borderline but stuck to a melo-death sound.

Necrophagist - Epitaph
Bloodbath - Resurrection Through Carnage
Carcass - Heartworks
Edge of Sanity - Crimson
Atheist - Unquestionable Presence
Atheist - Elements
Death - Human
Death - Symbolic
Cynic - Focus
Opeth - Still Life
Opeth - Blackwater Park
Gorguts - Obscura
Farmakon - A Warm Glimpse
Gorod - Neurotripsicks

I know I'm forgetting some but whatever.
