YES!!! I AGREE WHOLEHEARTEDLY!!

actually I don't. Fuck you.

...well, of course Irene from the new Ayreon was great.

But before that....I really like Atrox's (well....former) singer, Monika Edvardsen. She was kind of like a female Garm. That reminds me to go listen to the band she's in now.

Like evil Garm or jazz Garm? Either way, I gotta hear that.

I have 'Orgasm,' their most recent album....from 2003. The riffs are pretty heavy compared to some bands with female vocalists....but it's hardly brutal or anything...a few riffs reminded me of Meshuggah. Her vocals....I'm not sure if Garm is the best comparison.....but her voice is very unique, and the quality is very theatrical and wavering, going all over the place. And they're also from Norway, so that might add to it. Listen to "Flesh City" and "Tentacles."

I got 'Suicide By My Side' for the title track. I sold it for some reason, and I don't think I ever really absorbed anything besides the title track. But I liked her vocals. Everyone else seems to think she's awful and sounds like a man.

She doesn't jump to my list of best female vocalists, though.

Compared to its predecessors "Contentum" and "Terrestrials", Monika´s vocals on "Orgasm" are quite moderate. If you listen e.g. to "Lizard Dance" on "Contentum" or "Mare´s Nest" and "The Beldam of the Bedlam" on "Terrestrials" , you might understand what I mean. When I listened to "Contentum", the vocals somewhat reminded me of a weird mixture of Kate Bush, Ofra Haza and Nina Hagen. There are some mp3s from all albums on the official Atrox-website, just go to "More mp3s".

If it doesn´t have to be metal, you should also check out Tactile Gemma´s eponymously-titled album. It was a project of former Atrox-guitarist Rune Sørgård, Monika and her sister Ann-Mari Edvardsen (it´s actually Monika who did most of the vocals and also wrote nearly all the lyrcis).

BTW, which "new band she´s in now" do you mean? Swarmling? (As far as I know they haven´t released any songs yet.)

Oh....I guess that was a misnomer. I was talking about Tactile Gemma, which is the only band she's in that's listed as active on Metal Archives. I've heard "Serpentarium" from that, and it was good. Does the rest of the album have that soft, relaxed feel?

Yes, it does. I think you should also like the other songs on this album - which will remain the only Tactile Gemma release (at least with Monika).

okay heres one for yall, whos the best female vocalist in a metal band, any type of metal. and i know some of you are probably gonna say angela, but lets stick to clean and melodic vocals

Well, I suppose I am disqualifying myself from legitimately replying to this post because I think that clean and melodic vocals are very lame, and completely non-metal, but, the chick from Nuclear Death takes the cake as the best female vocalist in metal, hands down. She has the most vile, disgusting, repellent voice I have ever heard. Totally METAL.

Mike.
