I actually can't think of a single live metal album that I would prefer over the equivalent list of studio songs. I hardly ever listen to live albums. I could see this being different if I were huge into black metal, which is all about lo-fi production, but for most metal genres the sound is much more powerful on the studio version.

For rock in general, though, my favorite would probably be the Grateful Dead's Europe '72. That album is amazing.

Obituary's Dead is amazing, they play the songs perfectly on it. Live Cannibalism isn't bad either, but Dead is better so I voted for that.
