Best metal album of the year so far...

Been listening to it so far, but without headphones on a crappy phone speaker. It's amazing metal, but not as thrashy as I expected. I'll probably enjoy it better with my good headphones (curious as to how Speesy's bass was mastered, as they have the tendency to drown him out.)

I don't like Death metal too much, and melodic death even less. But I find curious that metal purists that would love Angel Witch (I love them myself) and would find fault with an album like this, which is faster and more "brutal" at points. Nothing against that beautiful Angel Witch first record, which to this day is a favorite of mine. It's just amazing heavy metal. But even though Phantom Antichrist is not straigth on thrash, this doesn't really classify as melodic death, or just melodic metal, because else it wouldn't appeal to me, and it does.

Hordes of Chaos was definitely the most furious and thrashier of the lastest two releases, to be sure. If you love Thrash metal raw and pure, you would probably enjoy Hordes of Chaos more than the current release. I even liked their raw production choice for that one. This one is Kreator, definitely, but on a more kreative vein, and I usually prefer a simpler, less complex, more energetic choice (metal? yes. thrash metal? only at times.)

(United in Hate is so awesome!)

(This album does fit Mille's description of it, so he didn't lie to us. This is why I feared it wouldn't be as "good" as Hordes of Chaos, because I define "better" on how thrashy and energetic it is. I will give it a proper listen later.)

Thanks for ure review so far, very interesting

meanwhile nuclear blast release some opinions over kreators new album

New Fear Factory - fuck the programmed drums, they sound awful. Otherwise, it's looking good...I saw a video of FF playing Self Bias Resistor with Mike Heller and was not too impressed, he's just too "technical" for them.

It is a very excellent album by what probably is by now my favorite band, Kreator. I may have missed great albums by a few other bands I love, so I am not ready to say it will be "the metal album of the year" (and there a few to come out as well) but it is indeed a great work. It's plenty fast and brutal as usual-it makes me laugh when Mille refuses to have a totally slow song; he is always compelled to add a super fast episode for good measure, as if he was saying "we are still Kreator after all." :p I like the heavy metal influences on the album-these were already evident even during Hordes of Chaos (remember the ending of Demon Prince, which is very emotional and moving after all the brutal thrash that preceded it-that entire ending section is more heavy metal than thrash, IMHO.) The group heavy metal anthems are actually fun and very emotional (from flood into fire)-not the usual Kreator fare, but they do it as well as anybody could. As I expected I liked it much more after listening to it with headphones during my gym workout yesterday, and I am rightfully hooked on it, as any metal/thrash metal fan probably should (I like heavy metal too, and "melody" is not necessarily a bad thing-a bad song is a bad song, a good song is a good song, regardless "melody" or "brutality.")

I am glad Scott liked it, because it means he's aware of what other bands are doing, which hopefully will keep influencing their own sound (for instance, I loved Worship Music's Earth on Hell-still sounds like Anthrax but is very aggressive and Thrashy-my favorite song of the album.) I didn't even expect Anthrax to be aware of what the other Thrash metal bands are doing (no offense) so it's very encouraging. I don't want Anthrax to stop becoming Anthrax, but I do want them to be the best band they can be with each release, and to never forget what was the genre that they were initially famous for-Thrash Metal.

So in summary, I'll be purchasing Phantom Antichrist on release day. It is a monster of a metal/thrash record, and you would have to be uber picky/choosy to hate this great work. If you like metal, at least you should give it a try. While a bit on the "safe" side, Kreator's safe side is usually much more fun and brutal than most other bands safe approaches. They are still a Thrash band, and this is basically a Heavy Thrash Metal album that only "tr00 metal" people will probably hate (I am also "true", but this is truly good, my friends.) Listen to it, make a decision-I'll buy it, and believe it will be among the best albums to come in many years from any metal band.

These testimonial videos seem to be the new thing. I remember seeing the same thing when the latest morbid angel album came out. There were all these people saying how amazing it was, when in reality the new morbid angel is the worst record they have ever done by far.

I don't take those things too seriously. I will get the album and judge for myself

Yeah really looking forward to those 2 - Kreator especially.

I've been jamming Lamb of God's Resolution a lot again lately and for me that's still - along with Soulfly - the best record so far of 2012. Really solid record right there.

kreator should be good, ill check out ff too

i agree ... but the kreator is very good

the fear factory is also great

I just listened to the new Kreator record all the way through. It's solid. Some of the guitar work is spectacular. Is it just me though, but does it sound like they're kind of playing it safe by their usual standards??? Kind of staying a safe step away from the usual Kreator brutality of some of their earlier works??? Not saying they've softened up, but the record doesn't have the usual Kreator killer blow....... dunno....... only listened to it twice so I may be proven wrong.

It's amazing-the way I see it is as being true to what Mille said about it, having all the "Kreator trademarks" plus classic metal influences. Some people compare it to Violent Revolution, but it's not that similar, although there's a vibe to it. It's better than VR IMHO. It has a few of the Enemy of God influences as well. I actually think it's more brutal than either of those two albums, but not more brutal than Hordes of Chaos. It's very addictive. This one is way more complex than Horde of Chaos, but still not ridiculously so. It still sounds like Thrash with Heavy Metal episodes, or viceversa. It does feel safer than usual, but I think he wanted to record it this way, and see what he could get away with. Seems to me he likes that Iron Maidenesque vibe, and since I do as well, I understand. They manage to still place their ridiculously fast episodes even in the slower songs anyway. I wish the last song was on a faster vein, but it does has its uber fast episode. I just got used to a fast song to end the album, in the spirit of Under the Guillotine and Demon Prince. But truth to be told, it flows organically from track to track, and never gets boring-it's also very emotional, even more so than EoG, while being more aggressive than said album. I love it, even if I was less than enthusiastic at first listen-it just gets better on each subsequent listening, especially if you understand what Mille/Kreator had in mind.

I also agree with Naoko Benoire that while these mini endorsements by other bands are rather commercial and hollow, the album is nevertheless awesome, and does warrant the attention and praise, even though it's being used as a gimmick to sell the album by Nuclear Blast. I would say it's not just solid, or even very good, but an excellent metal/thrash album.

actually like the morbid album now,its still fucking heavy and original wich is hard to do these days

Any System fans out there? Toxicity still holds that special place for me. It was fucking unreal live too. Serj's new shit isn't bad either actually: http://bit.ly/serjFIO

Looking forward to seeing how Harakiri turns out

I like them enough to have bought a ticket to see them in August. This will be my first time seeing them. What's the deal with these guys? Are they a full time band now or just a side project? Serj has a new solo album and he's touring with System? Seems strange, but I'm looking forward to it.

I fucking hate system of a down. I really do. I think theyre a piece of shit. Mainstream "metal" at its worst. They fucking are an insult to metal and theyre a part of everything thats fucking wrong with it, FUCK 'EM.

System (along with Deftones) are the only good thing to come from the nu metal era.
